So, now my forces are starting to come together and I have most at various stages of completion, I've started to think more about gaming...
Specifically, about putting a board together to start some small games! I've begun to purchase various bits of terrain and had a few questions.
Firstly, having read through this forum, it appears plenty of terrain is SBG is essential. Is this right?
Based on that, is the following sufficient to get started?
I have two lots of LOTR ruins, 2 small rocky outcrops with a tree on each, 5 individual unbased small trees/bushes, 4 unbased large trees, 2 large trees on a single base, 2 large hills, 5 tree stands with multiple large trees, 6 rough terrain (rocks, long grass) flat pieces and a medium stoney mound.
(Having listed the above, I can see how this would be hard to guage without seeing it all! But just getting an idea)
Also, would anyone recommened the citadel gaming mat?

It depends how big your board is. In the rulebook, it says you should cover 33-50% of your board with terrain, so a slong as it cover sover 1/3 of the size your board is going to be, it'll be fine.

I bought a 100"x50" mat form the train section of a Hobby store for about $10 US less then the Citadel Mat as well as 14 deciduous trees for $25 US from the same section (the company was woodland scenic). It might pay to shop around and see what is out there for the trains and diarama before you decide on where to throw you money or to give some variety to your gaming table. I can post some pictures of the 25mm next to the trees if you are interested, I think they scale well for some younger trees as the heads are about level with the lowest branch.
