I painted and based some models, but used some dodgy glue to put the static grass on so it looks horrible now. I tried soaking in water to losen the PVA used to stick the sand on but as it has been painted over it won't work. Is there a way to do this other than scrape it off with a knife>

dip the base in nail polish remover for a couple of seconds. should be plently long enough to weaken the glue but not start stripping the paint on the model.

I had this problem to get sand off a base of a terrain piece. Warm water ( almost boiling) just wiped on seemed to weaken the glue, then most of it peeled off. 8)

Sorry, but I'd definitely not do this, if you dont want to risk to have to repaint the whole mini. Even little contact with polish remover can damage your paintjob already.

Carefully removing the sand with a kife imho is a much safer way!

Only if you are heavy handed and drop the whole model in...I've never had a problem with accidental paint stripping.

If you're careful enough with the remover nothing will go wrong, the worst that could go wrong is the base rim paint might come off, but i suspect he hasnt done this yet as he was still doing the static grass.

Thanks for the replies, I'll give all methods a go and see which works best.

Peel and scrape it off with a stanley blade or wide hobby knife. It'll look ugly after but I presume you're basing it again.
