An idea; a poll should be created for 2011, and one for the 2012 Painting Challenges between the winners to see which was absolutely the best for those years. And of course it would be pretty nice if there was some small award given, not sure what though. A painting brush maybe... some nice little touch.

I agree totally that way someone could be deemed ultimate painter :) I don't think there should be an award though

Nah, you make it sound like it would be a landslide unless you're hinting at being a vote out of popularity rather than quality. DMS has tight competition in Bizarrewarstar, Macgothmog, Valpas and a few others. Those are some amazing painters. I do agree though that you can't fully trust in public forum polls, they can get rigged, but that's the reality.

How about this, if you can't mail them something as a reward, perhaps maybe a profile badge underneath their rank and avatar pic as a form of recognition.

Thats a real nice thing to say but there are faar better painters here than I.

I like the idea Sacrilege and will try and set something up if you like, With regards to pictures for the voting do you think the best way would be to display the winning pictures for consecutive months and then a poll to vote for the painter of your choice? Let me know what you want to do with this and i'll have a look at the weekend.

I would look toward the winner of each month going to the final vote. There would be the issue of ne person having more than one entry. You could argue this wouldn't be fair and also someone may do a stu Ning piece that doesn't qualify as they already have an entry in the final. My solution would be to have the second place also go the final as the person who has already one entry through.
So the top painter would have two entries and rightly so, if you are that good, but a decent second lace gets their shot at the final.
A month by month photo upload would be nice to see the entries grow.

It sounds a good idea and particularly whilst we are waiting for the One Ring Awards to restart (someday) it adds another dimension to the site.

I like the idea of a special ranking or two that last for a year. This gives kudos to the winners and it's something to aspire to.

The idea of special rankings has been mentioned as a potential idea in the revamp of the One Ring awards so it fits in with the overall idea of members being identified in this way.

@DMS & GtG,
I would just poll the individual winning entries rather than have painters represent multiple entries that won. I could see the irony in that individual 'A' has two separate entries and has a total combine votes of 30 between them, but individual 'B' wins out for his single entry of 20 votes. There is a certain poeticness in that where individual A undermines himself having his votes split between his multiple entries, but I want this to be about the best painted model, rather than the individual painter, which would already be hard to determine.

Not sure I like the idea of a second place entry of a Painting challenge moving into the annual poll because it wasn't the best for its month, so why should it be given the chance to win the annual poll? It would kind of be oxymoronic; a second place entry being voted best of that year. Doesn't make sense.

You know if I was a master sculptice, I would gladly put forth an award to the winner, alas that's not the case. A 3 piece GW brush set or some other trademark would also work nice, but who would put forward the cash for that? That's why token icon below profile is nice and cheap.

Have the vote for each winner of each month. This is for the best painted figure, not the best painter, thus it is fine if one painter has multiple figures in the running.

A special badge would be really cool, but that would depend on if Dagorlad had the time to write the code for it.

I can volunteer to provide the cash for a small prize like a couple of brushes or a blister, no problem with that. I've received so much joy from the community and the painting challenges that I can gladly give some back.
