Pecs don't control arm movement in that way. Put your arm in that pose and your pecs most likely (at least mine don't) won't change that much. Granted, I'm not super buff but whatever.

Azog on foot doesn't look nearly as good as I had hoped. I think i'll just sculpt my own one.

Yeah they do. Mine morphs into my shoulder. It certainly doesn't go under my arm when i raise it. I'll post some diagrams tomorrow to demonstrate as I'm not sure you understand what I'm getting at.

Oh yeah and here are some pictures of new releases for those who are interested.

The other new releases look ok.

Thorin looks like he is performing in a Gilbert and Sullivan's musical though,
The Dwalin model seems to lack a certain level of tension and life in it.
Balin looks absolutley fantastic though!

I attach a self portrait to show what an extended pectorial should look like. :P

Oh, and this picture of a scantily clad muscle man is for reference only before this topic spirals out of control with depraved innuendos. Keep comments on topic please. 8)

Quite right Freddy Bear, this is to be a model topic, and we do not wan't anyone muscling in with any double entendres! Miniature topics are most definately not to be toyed with!

OK, now all of that is out of my system, I think that you are absolutely correct about the some what statically positioned pecs, its something that I would not have noticed, but now alerted its all I can see! Which does down grade an excellent miniature for me.

I also think that the paint job by GW does as someone earlier said, look better than the CGI!

I don't usually post criticisms of other people work. I have no ability as a sculptor what so ever.I only paint to table top standard. I saw it was fine cast I did not look at it. After reading the post I decided to comment. I think the figure looks awkward. Why? UKFB pointed out the musculature but it is more than that. The figure calls to mind a polo player standing in the saddle ready to score a goal. Wait there is no saddle, or stirrups, the figure is not standing, the hips are square to the shoulders and the arm position would be more appropriate if the head was turned that way. Azog is not playing polo he is trying to hitting some one with a stick. It might as well be a wet noodle with the arm and hand like that. I may not be able to sculpt or ride a wolf but I spent 28 years as a inter city police officer. I do know how to hit someone with a stick. That is why the figure looks awkward to me.
I do like the face, and the warg. The paint looks better than the CGI on the TV but not in Imax.
I am not going to buy it because it is fine cast. It is not a good figure but I have purchased figures that were far worse.

Ha! That's worth a quote if ever I heard one. Happy birthday Charlie. Actually my beef is with the foot version, but yours is with the mounted.

Yes, pecs would change shape when you have your hands behind your head. However, I think that the musculature of the foot model is fine when you see how his arm is. Azog's upper arm is parallel to the ground, the freakish self portrait you posted has his upper arms perpendicular to the ground.

As for the mounted model, you can easily hold onto a horse with just your legs, I assume that a 7' tall orc would be able to grip a warg easily enough for that pose. Especially a supposedly eldritch warg.

Nope. It is still wrong in my opinion. The arms are actually in a similar position. Only the elbow in my pic is more bent, which wouldn't affect the chest anyhow. The only way the chest on that Azog works is if his arm is down by his side. And it isn't. So I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one Draugluin.

Eh, sure. One final note: since he is striking with his mace, as in bringing it downwards, his pecs would be flexing, which would give the appearance of bulging the way they are.

Really? I thought he was the best of the three dwarves facially.

I agree with ukfreddybear, of all hes the one that got the best recognized face and his pose is nicely done.
PS. if you wanna do old Balin from Balin´s company to moria, you just need to cut his hair, paint his beard white and giving small greestuff tips on the edges and all those details, repaint his armour and replace his sword with the axe of Durin (or not) and he will look really well :P

The only ones I have a problem with are Azog on foot and Thorin. It's a shame because that could have been a really good Thorin figure from the scene where he summons all the dwarves to charge but something doesn't quite look right about it.
Also, sorry if someone has posted this before, but has anyone noticed that on the description for Azog on GW website it says Azog was supposedly killed by Dain Ironfoot. Obviously this is the original story but its interesting GW decided to ignore the film.

Well if he survives to the third film it might still happen that way, Dain killing him that is

Funny that you should mention that! this picture was actually inspired by Azog in said polo match. I found this pic to prove it...
