It's supposed to be sort of thematic and based around the time that Born of Hope was based on. The High Elves are there to be the heavy hitters, and are not thematic.

Forgetting about the theme, would Malbeth be better than Arathorn or Halbarad?

Free channeled fury that does not need to be cast with any will, and is in play for as long as you want.

If you are going to use arnor, I recommend NOT playing them as grey company, use the warriors of Arnor instead, you can convert them from warriors of minas tirith easily and they are really good for their points (defence 6 and fight 4!). Also, having full bows is not much of a benefit now that bows kinda suck. Here is what I would be taking if I were in your boots:

11 Arnor warriors

Awwww yeah; fight 4 all around, almost 40 models, a 5+ save for everything in your defence 6 battle line, a 3 attack hero, decent shooting if you need it, and a 122 stand fast.

I see your point, but I really want high elves too.

What if you dropped the Twins and went with a normal captain? You'd get a lot more warriors that way and it would still be thematic.

What about Erestor, forgetting about theme?

Erestor wouldn't violate them, seems good to me.

Regarding theme and good armies; whereas evil armies have generic models like taskmasters, shamans, and drummers who can buff friendly models, whereas all the good models can do this are named. As such I would not let 'theme' hold you back when forming an army if there is a certain model like Malbeth who provides something you really want, but is out of the theme.

I am currently working on a 'defenders of Minas Tirith' army where the numbers are low (thanks to Gandalf's high points cost and his inability to lead troops, thanks gw) so I need someone who can make my 36 troops last longer, only model available to me is Malbeth, however he can lead near identical soldiers to warriors of Minas Tirith (warriors of Arnor). I have simply justified this as him being one of the chaps from the houses of healing, who has come to assist in the defence of his city - I don't feel it breaks theme because the game was designed to make effective and themed good armies impossible 80% of the time.

Normally I'd agree (especially if facing normal orcs or goblins), but in this case there's a nice front line of WoA, so having some 2H can't hurt.
