The elf head is from the old conversion sprue. When I made Beorn five years ago there wasn't a young Bilbo mini so I used the Frodo one to get the scale right. Now the Bilbo with the walking stick would do nicely instead. I love the passage from the book that describes the initial meeting between Beorn Gandalf and Bilbo. Its that moment i tried to capture.

All of it is great as usually but I really am in love with the both forms of Beorn.

All are fantastic conversions. Its strange how a simple hair sculpt makes them look so much more detailed.

Love the work you have done! I admire your skill and talent with sculpting.

The one question I have is regarding sculpting banners. Any tips or suggestions??

Thanks. You're pretty handy yourself.

With banners, these days I tend to roll some brown stuff flat (use talc on the work surface and on top of the putty to stop it sticking to the tool) then cut it to shape. Glue it into place on the pole and give it a few gentle twists/bends. Once it has cured rock hard, this will provide a solid base to add putty sausages to which can be blended in as extra folds.

Talc.... that is genius.... I had tried other non stick substances but none have worked. I will definitely give that a go.

Once it has cured, simply rinse off the talc with water. Otherwise you may have problems getting subsequent layers of putty to adhere.

Great work Dave! Your sculpting skills are amazing! I really like the mounted Elendil, I have already seen it several times, but yours is the best. The cloak and the shield are very good. I surely like the rest of you miniatures as well. Keep it up!

Well its been about 18 months or so since I last painted anything for Middle-earth, but I busted out the paints and brush again as I'm sending these up to Thermo for the GBHL battle reps as part of the sponsorship with Shadow&Flame:

I actually quite enjoyed it to be honest.

Awesome! I shall pick myself a couple of these up when they're back in production. Still have to paint my lovely bear though- saving it up as a treat once I've got some dull batch painting done.

The paintbrush isn't my weapon of choice but it did make a refreshing change to the sculpting tool.

Willow foliage is something called natural fern. It looks quite fragile but is quite robust once its painted and sealed. The foliage on the back of the birch is woodland scenics clump foliage which is basically dyed sponge.

I always enjoy seeing these sculpts, no matter who is painting them, they are very well done. So it is cool that you are painting them up as a sponsor gift. I should find a way to get me some of those. The painting looks great.
