That moose could be an elven legend that has longevity of life like the elves , so in tolkiens world that moose could be 100-200 years old.

Moose only have a life span of 15-25 years, so of course his steed in the first film is dead.

Noooooooooooooo tell me its not true! I reckon that Thranduil drives it out of Mirkwood and parks at Rivendell so that Elrond can "Renew" it every ten years or so?

Perhaps that is the real reason for the attack on Mirkwood is so that the Necromancer can bring it back to life as he want's it for him and the ringwraiths on the weekend! Even Evil needs a day off!

I love the way that this thread has developed such an unexpected (Yet highly relevant) direction!

But, in all seriousness, I really want a model of Thranduil in heavy armour astride "chambourcy" his valiant battle moose!

I will probably use this one. I want to make sure my brother has another he will trade me before I make the modifications. If not I have broken model like the rider that will get a new head.

Love your Monty Python reference Seren...

I really hope Bolg will still be in the film with old design and at least as minor character.
For the possible starter set i really want more than only spiders for the evil side. If Azog leads the orcs in the Battle of the five armies than i want him armored up with saurony type of armor!

A reliable poster on one of the 40K forums is saying that there will be no Hobbit starter set in December. No more info than that, nothing to imply there will be no Hobbit releases in December and nothing to imply there won't be a starter set in January.

Bear in mind this might make sense, they may have originally had Escape from Goblin Town for film 1 and Battle of the 5 Armies for film 2. When the films got split into 3 they may have decided not to have a new starter box and just release models/a sourcebook.

We shall see.

Take with salt as always.

I hadn’t thought about it but bearing in mind the time frame it takes to create a starter set and that it was initially 2 films, we probably won’t see one this time. I guess if Escape from Goblin Town had sold better (and the special edition had sold out) we might have seen one. But I suspect it wouldn’t be worth the investment for GW to produce an extra one.

I’m really looking forward to a new journey book though.

I might even be persuaded into buying some elves eventually with the new releases.

There is logic here however, they have had a year to come up with what will effectively be three or four plastic sprues, which is no a great deal. Also the making two films into three actually means that they have more time to manufacture and release the miniatures that they would have produced any way!

Quite simply there is absolutely no way that G.W. would wish or not be contractually required to support the release of the new film, which frankly looks to be significantly more exciting and have more mass appeal than the last.

This Friday will be the big retail sales day for the year in the US. If It is not in stock or on the self now I will have to special order it. No one had a pre order in time so I don't expect to see a GW release of any kind in time for an impact on Christmas sales. My independent retailer still has one of the two starter boxes ordered from last Christmas.May be if he discounts it 70% it will sell.

If I was GW I'd just continue to sell the AUJ set, which at its price and with Thorin's Company in there is still attractive. This way they can get rid of the stock, don't have to bother creating a new one and a new set is not reducing the sales of the other releases.

I for one am not buying separate releases. Without a set it would probably cost twice as much to be able to play scenario's like the ones in AUJ.

I am looking forward to the New DOS Chronicles book due after the film release. I think there will be lots of inspirations for builds. As for new models I traded for some of my brothers 1980's LOTR elves. I had had a hard time locating moose models as well.

Moose is the plural of, well, moose! Wouldn't it be great if he had in the film or G.W. later release a unit of Moose Riders to back him up. Especially if they have some special rule like the Mahud camels and have the woodland creature special rule!
