Happy new year to you all and welcome to the first of many glorious painting challenges of 2014. It was great to see the challenges proving so popular and churning out so many fantastically painted models throughout 2013. Lets see if we can raise the bar for the new year.

This Month you have chosen...

Image

Rules

If you are unsure as to whether something will be eligible for entry, just post asking or PM me and I will let you know whether or not you may use it.
This is a single miniature challenge

1.To complete the challenge a miniature must be completed by January 31st 2014.

2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of January 31st 2014. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 5 photos of your completed entries please, this allows you to show your miniatures off from multiple angles.

4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months.

Good luck to all

Cool, Monsters it is! :)
I hope I can join this challenge for once.. Now just to find the right monster.. Would my own sculpted Great Goblin also count (he's not as big as GW's version, being on a 25mm base)? Sitting down, he's some 35 mm I think.

Several free days left, a good number of unpainted monsters as well.. yeah, this may just be that challenge I could be able to enter!
Hmm.. Cave troll, Mordor troll chief, Gulavhar - and if, as per the other thread, even a Shade counts, I'm sure the Necromancer would be eligible as well. May have to run a poll to help me decide. Or just roll a die!

My previous take at monsters ended badly, I did not even get Shelob assembled. This time I'll try a little less creepy crawly thing, the Goblin King:

Cheers, had a crazy autumn at work. I hope I have more time for hobbies during the winter. I'm trying to re-activate myself a bit, at least now that I have a few days off. These challenges have previously managed to get me back to painting.

Would an undercoated mirkwood spider be able to enter?

Just came across another unpainted monster (had possibly sort-of almost forgotten about him...), which will be my entry! An alternative take on William the Troll - huge, scary and even carrying a big bag over his shoulder to put Dwarves (and perhaps a Hobbit) in. OOP Bob Olley sculpt, lovely piece.

And additional proof, to show he quite definitely is a monster:

Okay, nice. 8)

Some great monsters being painted here, with Coenus' Troll being especially special! Looking forward to see that one, and the other entries of course. :)
