It is time to decide the winner of the December painting challenge. Lots of entries so thankyou to everyone who participated. Honorable mentions go to snowlock for the awesome snowy Bag End, and Legolas31 for the creepy Dead Marshes scene with a spectre breaking through the ice. Unfortunately both were ineligible as neither member could provide proof that they were painted during the month of December.

So here are the contestants:

Great entries everyone, might take me a day or two to make a decision this month.

P.S. DMS, any reason the close up of Azog didn't make the cut? A close up pic might do me more harm than good but I thought we were allowed 4 pics? Sorry to nag, I know this thread must be a nightmare to organise! :-)

Went for Frogmorton's Gandalf and Saruman mounted, mainly because its such a cinematic diorama, you can just envisage them charging through the snow. :)
Great job everyone though, Mortaal's was brilliant aswell, just for the sheer amount of painting done.
Good luck all! :)

I went with Edge 67 and the giant, rabbid, mutant hamster lol. It's a very well painted piece and the gold just did it for me

Euranion for me: a great combination of theme and painting skill. It was a tough decision: so many nice entries. Mortaal, Edge 67, Rognarr… the list goes on. In the end, the festive theme takes it ;).

I would have liked to vote for several entries as this was one of the toughest choices. Eventually I chose Erunaion's dwarf. The red and white colour scheme looks so good and it is exceptionally well painted; the highlights are really smooth and natural-looking. Mortaal's Grimhammers are also awesome.

Much as I like Mortaal's grimhammers, Santa Dwarf is the winner for me in this competition. I love his rosy red cheeks from the cold, and his cloak is superb, very crisp and clean. I wish I could see a closer picture of his axe, but the vote still goes there from me.

Nice work from all entrants though :D

I see many people having the same dilemmas as myself - there are so many great entries. Very, very well done folks.

All of them great entries, and indeed a difficult decision.

Would advice Manadar, thefryer and Martinus to crop the pictures next time, as 80% of the area shown is of little interest, and it's very diffcult to judge the quality from what is visible.

Erurainon's entry is excellent, great blending on red (always a lovely colour to paint) and good attention to details, as shown in that characterful face.

Rognarr's snowy base is very nicely done, and I like the hair colour too - a difficult one to get right without it becoming too bright.

Frogmortonjustice65's efforts on the white are commendable too, managed to get a good deal of variety in there, which shows especially well on Gandalf.

Dr Grant's Azog looks equally great, Warg may be a bit clean (notably the head) but a great piece nonetheless, I like your basing style too.

While edge67's models isn't my cup of tea, it obviously is very nicely painted but it's that magnificient base that really stands out.

Great blending and NMM by PowerOfWill, although just because of that high standard, the back of the shield and the slightly too bright front of it stand out, simply because of the context of that fantasticly done helmet.

Finally then Mortaal with the terrific army, it is slightly difficult to appreciate how much is down to painting techniques and how much to a great choice of colours, but it sure looks fantastic. From a competition point of view the bases could use more variety, but I realise a layer of fresh snow simply looks like that!

Not a bad one in there this month. Very hard to pick but I went for mortaal. It just has that "I want to buy these minis now" factor.

very good entries, Erurainon has recieved my vote though as it is such good painting and ties in well with the theme. I changed my idea halfway through the month and forgot to take a proof picture of the new idea...I will add my entry to my WIP instead :)

Sorry about that. I formulated the voting thread and it just got missed off when I was cutting and pasting all the photos from the other thread. I have since added it.
