Usually I get blamed for puns like that :)

Anyway, the Weathertop in snow looks fantastic as does the board. I had my own introduction to snow work on Balrog's Doom several years ago - it was fun but a lot of work. I have been threatening to use it as a Christmas decoration (forgot to this time round because there was a lot going on).

Thanks for the nice comments as always.

This weekend I speed painted 37 Noldorin elves.

Call me perverse, but old as they are I like the Last Alliance high elf models. The wood elves not so much. However, as much as i like them, there's a limit to how much time I want to be painting large quantities of 10 year old plastics, so the idea here was very much to get the damned things on the table as quickly as possible.

In total I finished 12 HE swordsmen, 6 HE archers, Gilgalad, Glorfindel, Elrond, Elrohir (or is it Elrohan? I can never remember!), 14 Wood Elves (to be used as Noldorin Exiles provided my opponent doesn't mind me using unarmoured Glorfindel as a proxy for Gildor, who I cannot locate).

I also threw a Legolas in the batch paint pile, so that if someone does object to my using Glorfindel as a Gildor proxy I can use the war band as an allied Wood Elf contingent.

Either way, I can make up a crappy 500 points out of this by leaving out 5 Wood Elves.

They're finished, but I need to use a bit of crushed glass on the bases- a touch of melting snow. Quite happy with the frosty leaf look, but I think I overdid the grey and white in places.

I'm not sure I'm happy with the colour scheme in the end. Maybe I should have stuck to the traditional blue…

Well, I also do like the colours used, partially because it's simply different, but it's also much colder, perhaps also purer. Those frozen leaves look fantastic, great idea.

You're not alone in liking the plastic Elves, much can be said about them but the details are excellent, especially noticable on the vambraces. Static poses are only annoying on the swordsmen, it fits the archers well enough.
The shading on the faces does seem slightly harsh on Elrond and Gil-galad by the way, and why are the latter's hands green?

Now that's a really nice and "refreshing" colour scheme and a top quality paintjob! Good job mertal!

Great colour scheme, much more woody. Is it just me or does the top sword of either Elladan or Elrohir (could never remember which sculpt was which) have a notch cut out of it?

Thanks all- I think I've been staring at them too long to fully judge the colour scheme! My idea was that the winter leaves would pick up tones of the red/gold armour (which they do, although it doesn't come across well in the images), while the turquoise would provide a nice contrast.

Gilgalad's green hands are supposed to be gloves! I think traditionally, high elves are all supposed to be wearing gloves in battle, according to the film imagery anyway. Perhaps the leaf green wasn't the best choice of colour for them?

And yes, the face highlights are certainly harsh- it's an artefact of trying to paint 37 models in 2 days! I literally spent no more time on the characters than I did the rank and file. This is definitely "tabletop standard", and the lower end of that too ;).

Last night I also started to convert a Narzug on Warg. I think he looks a bit more like an Uruk than an orc, so I used a plastic Uruk scout model torso, and simply stuck it on a warg rider's legs. He's supposed to be a crack archer, so I chose a bowman, and snipped off the quiver, swapping it out for a Hunter Orc quiver. Then I salvaged an elven blade, and stuck it on his back.

I will try to add a few "braids" to his hair this evening, some sort of shoulder fur half cape, and possibly some more fur to his shin pads (or raver boots, as they should probably be known).

Finally, I tried to make the warg a bit more "Fell warg"y with some GS. I left the eyes where they were (the Wild Warg's eyes are set much further forward, more like a Hyena than the more wolf like Fell wargs), but gave him ears and fur tufts. Not sure how it looks really, but perhaps painting will cure my apprehensions.

I think with these things, painting is often the way you truly associate a conversion with the model it is intended to be. Really I should have used a warg berserker for this model as well, as the Uruk is not half naked, but it's a down and dirty conversion, so I'll see how it looks, and just snap off the torso and start again if it really bothers me.

I also need to convert a Fimbul on Warg- I simply do not wish to buy more Finecast than i absolutely have to. Having said that, I've cracked with Azog- I was planning on trying to make him work with the Wild Warg Chieftan, and an Uruk Berserker, but I had no ideas for the head or legs, and decided it would always look hooky.

I can't remember which is which either!

The original piece was snapped off (I have bought quite a few job lots of minis, many of which are broken or need TLC), so I have replaced it with a mystery item from the bits box!

I take it you don't play, other wise you would face a problem if his Fell Warg was shot out from under him. It is a very nice conversion though.

I really like the paint scheme on the Elves. It looks great! My only quibble would be the green gloves, they seem a bit bright given how subdued the rest of the miniatures are.

Great work all around! The elves are great, I love the paint scheme, and the basing is really nice too. Could we get a close up of a base? The scheme works very well both for the high elves and for the wood elves. The conversion also looks good. I'm not sure how well it will fit in with the fell wargs and such, but from a purely model standpoint it looks great. 8)

Sorry I didn't notice them before - your pics were blocked, nice painting on those Elves, very eloquent

Thanks! As for the footed version, I do play (in theory anyway), but have to find another plastic scout to convert the footed version. In the meantime, I have a painted metal Uruk Scout that will serve as a proxy for the moment.

My anti-finecast rule isn't written in stone, so there's a chance I may buy the official model, but I only really do that when I really love the figure (like Bolg, for example!).

Last night I didn't get around to adding the snow, but when I've done that I'll try to get a closeup pic or two for you.

I'm taking pictures on my phone, as my proper camera is at work- sometimes when I'm feeling super-organised I take figures in to photograph, but not that often :D.

Love the colour scheme you have chosen for the Elves, very impressive force for 2 days work.
