Theres an outside chance that the guy who wrote the article is an insider at GW but its more likely just a rumour. Then against its clearly only a matter of time before the metals disappear.

I just ordered $250 worth of LotR metal product over the phone from the US store and had no issues. I asked the sales rep about this rumor and he said he didn't think it was true.

Only two I needed was Elladan & Elrohir, which Ive had to order out of fright. Got every character and model I want now in metal. 6 Months of buying has taken its toll on my wallet though

I ordered €295.50 worth of metal models yesterday, and got an email confirmation saying they had all been dispatched, even some of the ones that said 1-2 weeks or up to four weeks on the website (e.g Elrond and Osgiliath Veterans)

The whole "Scrap Metal Stocks" thing seems to me a hoax.

LOTR range is disappearing, that is obvious. But even when GW decided to stop all the Specialist Games (Mordheim, Necromunda. Blood Bowl, Warmaster) year ago, they just sold the remaining stock, no scrapping at all.

More like a reaction to rumors fueled by the drop in sales and speculation.
The older stocks were melted down and recast. At some point GW will end all production of metal and then any surplus will be sold.

It seems from many of your reports some products are sill being cast per order.

The one I ordered is Elrond, Master of Rivendell, which is listed as 'expected to dispatch within four weeks', that's why I was surprised that on the same day as the order, I got confirmation that he had shipped too. Unfortunately, you can no longer order the metal armoured version.

I placed my order 4 days ago and still have not gotten an order confirmation email, and when I look at the order details on GW online it still says "order being processed", also all the items are on 1-2 week dispatch but on my order details they all say "usually ships in 24 hous"???

I never actually got a confirmation email  However, I ordered it all in the morning (before nine) yesterday, and a few hours later got a shipping confirmation email, with all models, including the 1-2 week and 4 week dispatch ones shipped. However, on my order on my account, it said ALL models were 24hrs, which contradicts the actual listing on the site

I'd probably give them a quick ring, they have a decent customer service 8)

I strongly doubt GW had anything to do with this 'news' - their stock price went down, people created rumours about the end being nigh, a story appears about GW scrapping their metal and some people go out and panic buy everything. This then makes the stock of metal models run low, items go OOP and new rumours appear that GW are scrapping the range because everything's going OOP.

They've been phasing metal out for ages now, the advice is the same as it has been for the last 2 years, order anything you might want now as if you don't it'll be gone very soon.

Perhaps the rumour was started by GW as a way of temporarily increasing income. People purchase certain metals out of panic which they may or may not have bought otherwise.
Definitely a possibility.

First of all, Hi. First time poster here, but long time gamer(ever since it came out).

This is a response to a rather angry :-X Email I sent to them in regards to price change as well as their switch to finecast. Hope you enjoy this rumor of "metal being scrapped" as busted.

Hey Matt,

Thanks for writing in to us. Over the last decade plus, our shipping and manufacturing costs have skyrocketed, not to mention inflation. Consider, for instance, how much gas/oil has risen since we first launched the Lord of The Rings miniature line in the fall of 2001. The rising costs of metal are at least partially responsible for our shift to resin; we still produce miniatures in metal, but no new sculpts are designed for metal. I would also point to the huge strides in the quality of miniatures in recent years; especially in regards to our plastic miniatures. The Mirkwood Rangers from The Hobbit range is a great example of these strides.

I hope that you can see and understand, that all of these factors reflect in the quality and price of our miniatures.

Wow, that's really interesting. I thought all metals were OOP, but it looks like they're still making a few.
