Coming up is a very big tournament at a very awkward points limit, 350!

Not only does this tournament contribute to the 2014 GBHL season (of which I'm somehow miraculously 3rd!) but also will be the deciding tournament for the 2013 season.

This means we're going to see some horrendously cheesy lists!

Originally, my thinking was a very Thermo-esque list.

Knight of the Pelennor (armoured horse)
10 x Sons of Eorl

But with the tournament set to be so solo full of cheese AND for it counting to the 2014 season, I've started to really consider the scenarios.

Game 1 - Modified Recon (same as normal recon except 1 VP for exiting more models than opponent, 3 for double, 5 for triple, with 1, 3 and 5 added for each if your opponent fails to exit the board.

Game 2 - To The Death

Game 3 - Spawn of Ungoliant (hold ground set up with a monster spider controlled by player with priority that adds additional VPs for wounding or killing it (like leader) http://www.dropbox.com/s/q3neuif4pwgc77u/shadow_and_sorcery_event_pack.pdf

Game 4 - Domination

Game 5 - Shadow and Sorcery (lords of battle but you choose either Gandalf the grey or radagast the brown on foot if good, or saruman or Witch King on foot if evil.

With the last round being Lords of Battle and the points cost being 350 points, I think it's likely to see a few all hero armies. But domination and even modified recon favour some numbers.

I'm interested in what you guys think would be useful lists or lists we might see a lot of at this tournament?

Personally I think Isengard or Dwarves are the best bet at this level. Because you're likely to see all hero armies and either of those teams can at least slow heroes with their standard units.

If I were going I'd probably bring my 350 Moria list thou.

Warband 1
Durburz
12x Moria Goblins

Warband 2
Goblin Shaman
12x Moria Goblins

Warband 3
Goblin Shaman
12x Moria Goblins

Warband 4
Goblin Captain
4x Moria Goblins (3 w spear)

At low points level I reckon either take all Hero or lots of monsters. Something most infantry armies won't be able to deal with.

It won't be a cheese fest, since the points only apply once per year. Even if it was uber important the people who care enough about league position will already be using stinking bishop. I would go for the Son of Eorl list, against heroes the high attack value will force them to use might to win fights, and against hordes you can safely take on 2-3 models a turn.

I will probably be using a dragon with fly and tough hide or dwarves, or corsairs - all stuff I'd use anyway coz i am a pro.

Hey Thermo, do you actually have 10 Sons of Eorl yet?

Alternatively you could through Erkenbrand in and take an equivalent number of redshields, or even Eowyn and a mix of sons and riders. My issue with the sons of Eorl list is they lack any kind of bowfire and archers are a valuable tool for cavalry. You may also find three might is a touch short even with an army of Eorlings.

If your looking for a harder army...well that Rivendel knight/Son of eorl combo looked pretty decent. The elves complementing what the sons bring to the table nicely.

At this level its always difficult working out a good balance, I took all cavalry gondor to the last one, only won once against easterling infantry, the one game I was certain I'd lose lol.

Regardless of cheese the rules stay the same, pick something you know how to use and try to make the most of its strengths.

If a particular model arrives in time I will be using a themed all hero list :)

Here you go James try this list lol

Warband 1
Radagast the brown w/ Sebastian on sleigh

Warband 2
Eowyn w horse, shield & armor
8x Riders of Rohan

Just imagine. A thunderous cavalry charge led by the mighty bunnies lol!
But in all seriousness it'd work well as Radagast could channel Aura of Dismay to prevent being counter-charged

I've got six sons!

So to be honest, not quite enough :)

It's tough to know what to do...

Hashaarin
10 Corsair Reavers

Shade
10 Orcs with spear

= 350 points

I don't think it'll be too cheesy. Although I do have a feeling that most people will bring all hero...which will be boring...go with the sons 8) only when you are top of the league by only using Rohan we will accept that rohan are good ;)

I'm dithering between my Ferals who normally do really well at low points games (they won 5/6 games at this 300 point event last year) and Thorin, Dwalin, Gloin and Dori who would likely do reasonably well but not challenge the big boys. Gonna try and sort out some practice games wit Tom H this week to make my mind up, think my Ferals need to re-assert themselves after the Grinstead debacle! :-)

Shades can't ride Fell Beasts. And power gaming sucks so don't go with the shade/reaver combo.

Pretty sure there's no such thing as Alfrid Reavers either! Thermo was being a tad facetious I fear

Something like this I reckon:

Vrasku
Armoured shaman
13 ferals
7 Crossbowmen

The main dilemma is whether to swap the shaman for a D7 captain. Is probable (2 dice needing a 3+) game wide Fury better than 2 more Might (effectively), a D7 leader and another good fighter. Hmmm, decisions, decisions...

Oh sarcasm, shame one day I was planning to visit Dallas with Revers in tow....

It's not bad, except it's really not a lot of might...

Honestly James find a way to edit your Rohan list, everyone will probably be much happier with you....
