I ve never played with elves though I have some minis. I am lacking of Rumil so I used Elladan and elrohir who are called OP, though I lost some models and i have (maybe) low numbers.

Warband 1 9/12
Elladan and Elrohir
4 High Elf Warrior with Shield; Spear;
4 High Elf Warrior with Elven Blade;
----
Warband 2 8/12
Haldir with Armour; Elf bow;
8 Wood Elf Warrior with Elf bow;
----
Warband 3 7/12
Galadhrim Stormcaller
3 Wood Elf Warrior with Wood Elf spear;
4 Galadhrim Warrior with Elven blade; Spear;
----

I could not mount a hero. I ve heard that you MUST mount strong heroes in order to be effective but i am not sure in this short 500 pt list.

Other good heroes for low points? Maybe thranduil or someone from the new buddies?

Elf banners or hornblowers, are they necessary or effective?

What should be in the front line of the spearblock? I used elves with elven blades. Or maybe shielded+spears in the front line too? Something more sneaky?

Also not sure about the tactic. If enemy approaches me with vast numbers i don't know what a pro elf player :legolas: could do. Playing vs elfs, most of times I just crush em without so much effort.

Cheers as always ringers :yay:

I believe you're over the bow limit with that list because Elladan and Elrohir's warband are from the rivendell army list and not lothlorien although this shouldn't matter in a friendly game. Banners are great, especially for elves although at this points level I think I'd rather have the extra one or two elves instead. Hornblowers aren't necessary for elves really and especially not at this pts level so no need there. Hope this helps.

Come on I know there are some Legolas out there XD

Terrain is your friend, use gaps to channel your opponents so they cannot use their numbers against you. Pull a 300 if you can find the right terrain and focus fire into "killing lanes" to try and direct enemies

1. I know, elf player must be careful in the beginning of the game, when players place the terrain. But terrain cannot help you in every game. In the higher hill for example, probably QQ..

2. I am somewhat catching the meaning of this, but could you give more details cause I am really interesting on this tactic ^^

Never place your elves in the open against a greater number of enemies unless you have thranduil. His Aura of Dismay makes all the elfs terrifying so you can choose your fights against low courage enemies, also his Natures wrath is auto cast as if he rolled a 6 so is super effective usually.

Elfs have their major advantage in heros, you have to pick the right ones and use them correctly, trial in error, learning by experience.

Don't bother with hornblowers, elfs courage is already high, and banners in battles that only 750plus because you need numbers first then go for the banner.

I equip almost all my wood elfs with spear because of the shielding special rule for their spears, this can be really effective if you need to hold out for a few turns while waiting for back up.

Only bother with a shield wall if you have High Elfs with shields or Guards of the Galadhrim court or Palace Guards as the shield wall.

With terrain place your elves in wooded areas if you enemy has cavalry because they cannot gain the charge bonus in there and move at only 1/4 speed whilst you can move at full.

Heroes I recommend are Rumil, Thranduil, Glorfindel, Twins, Legolas, Erestor, Stormcaller. Those are probably the best heroes around for Elves.

As to my aforementioned "Killing Lanes" there's two ways to do this. The easiest way is to deny areas of the board with terrain by placing your archers in such a way that enemies passing around it from one particular direction will meet a barrage of arrows, this way you discourage movements to that area, thereby controlling that part of the board.

Or two, simply focus your fire into specific areas of your advancing enemy to break formations in half and thus make dividing and conquering that much easier. This is the less optimal option

Got me there, forgot about Taurial shes an animal in combat. Gil-Galad doesn't have a cavalry model (which would be sikc if he did because its in his options) so i left him out in favour of Glorfindel, they are both just infantry and hero shredders its comparing apples and apples really.

1. Thranduil makes it clear to me now that I absolutely need him. You cant have always the grounf in your favour cause of scenario's needs, so at least 1 time you need to fight in open ground, there he goes. Also he is a good option though he cant mount.

2. My only concern is that I dot have anyone mounted. I understand why the killing machines must mount but in an army currently with Thranduil, Legolas and stormcaller I dont have one.

3. I can field some high elf with shields but i must make a warband of Rivendell and because of the bow limit in each army, I must take less mirkwood elves archers in the Mirkwood warbands. Or divide em and take some high elf archers in other warband but that ruins what JamesR said about mass firing and clearing out paths. I dont know what to do there.
Also, i can replace Guards of the Galadhrim court with Gladhrim with shield i suppose, D5 also and cheaper!

4. Rumil is a treasure, there is no way i can find him now. Glorfindel and Erestor, I dont like em that much. Twins are meat machines (6 might in total omg) but I cant field em cause i must remove bows as I mentioned before!

5. Nice guides, I will make use of 'em for sure!

I'd advice dropping the Storm caller for Rumil if you can get a hold of him, You've already got the magic kick with Thranduil. Also don't take the Mirkwood guard they are hardly worth it, you may hit around 18% more but its not worth it when you can take 2 more wood elves with bows or spears for the same points. You will be able to kill more with 2 more bows than 2+ shooting.

Also LOVE the Guards of the Galadhrim Court, you only need a few but people hate to fight them because heroes have to heroic strike to beat them in combat! You might find some opponents will waste might on them or alternatively you can shield with them against heroes getting 2 Attacks and (normally) a higher fight value, this will tie up a hero for quite a while. They are simply very cheeky units.

P.S you can mount Legolas, he may not be a combat beast but 3 attacks on the charge with knockdown and 3 might is still pretty decent.

Just wanted to add that it's not necessary to mount close combat heroes. It is a nice bonus but they can certainly perform well enough without the horse

I managed to buy a Rumil but now I am not sure about the leaders.

Take as leaders:
Rumil + Legolas + Thraduil (old)
or
Rumil + Legolas + Galadhrim Stormcaller + 3 more elves

???

Thranduil is a lot better than a Stormcaller. Go with your old heroes.

Thank you all guys :legolas: for your helpful informations !

And this is my final army:

Warband 1 10/12
Rúmil
4 Wood Elf Warrior with Wood Elf spear;
4 Galadhrim Warrior with Shield; Spear;
2 Galadhrim Warrior with Elven blade; Shield;
----
Warband 2 8/12
Thranduil with Armour; Elf bow;
4 Wood Elf Warrior with Wood Elf spear;
4 Guard of the Galadhrim Court
----
Warband 3 8/12
Legolas
5 Wood Elf Warrior with Elf bow;
3 Mirkwood Guard with Elf bow;
----
Units Points
29 500

My last concern is that maybe i should not spend points for Mirkwood Guard and at last have:

Warband 3 8/12
Legolas
6 Wood Elf Warrior with Elf bow; Wood Elf spear;
2 Wood Elf Warrior with Elf bow;

Pretty solid list, playing some games now with it will be the best way to figure out whats best for you. However I must say drop the Mirkwood guard in favour of another bowman and spears. Always spears with wood elves, it just makes them so much better!
