Hi all,

Just a general question of sorts...

How long would it take you to complete a painting of standard model on average.

Take for example old school Lurtz. All being primed and ready to paint from start to finish how long would this usually take you?

Obviously this is very based on painting skill and level but I am looking for a average time frame for a 'Professional' level paint job.

regards

depends a lot on the detail of the model aswell but on average i would say 1-2 days (from 2-3 hours per day=6-7 hours) for a very good level.
But like you said depends a lot on the skill

Varies greatly by skill level and desired quality. The best i've ever done from primer to sealer is table quality mini in four hours.

What normally happens for me is this...
For a single mini (not conveyer belt style)
Day 1 clean and prime
Day 2 base coat
Day 3 washes
Day 4 highlights and seal.

Each session lasts about 30 to 120 minutes.

I have painted a fair amount of miniatures now.
Not a gazillion, but enough to get an idea of my time commitment.
Having two kids and a full time job, it can be tough to get a project going.

For my particular style and abilities it's around 3 hours minimum.
That would be for something I consider tabletop ready.
There are models I painted, gone back to later, and added more detail.

I believe my skills and concentration continually improve.
Miniatures are looked at, and detail is added several times.
It's not terrible or frustrating, it's learning.

I have a bunch of Mahud Raiders I need to get back to!
Thank you for the reminder!!!

Wow

This is amazing, Its great to see different peoples time allocation on models, Basically to see if I should in general be spending more time, roughly I am doing 8hrs per model and this would be larger models such as trolls etc.

I guess I am missing a few highlight stages.

I have just finished a Gandalf in 4 hours will post after base dries would love to get your feedback and see where I can improve and if I should be spending more time.

Thanks all

Depends a lot on the model. Mostly I batch paint so takes a while to paint alot but it probably takes about 2-4 hours per model. But Ringwriaths I love takes me like 1 hour or less they are so easy!

No idea how long standard infantry takes but a ork warboss(cave troll size) took 4 hours.

For heroes maybe 4-6 hours standard infantry probably 2-4. Idk that's all guess work based off how much I listen to while painting

I paint at least two models at the same time, which allows me to concentrate on one while the other is drying. I find it much more time effective. Lurtz is a fairly straight forward model I painted mine in about 2 hours, where as some of the more detailed models such as Elrond, Theoden etcake around 3-4 hours. I think my quickest model was actually one of the largest Sauron, he only took around 1 hour because it was all drybrushing.

So as I mentioned earlier this week it took me 4 hours to complete this model, am I missing anything? What you guys think should i spend more time with highlights?

I'm not an expert painter. I've been doing it for years now though and its easily 4 hours for even a troop I would reckon, though I do them in batches mostly so I can't tell you.
I painted a mounted hero about a month ago and that must have been about 8 hours, probably more.

Honestly if you're happy with then there's no problems, some people naturally paint quicker than others, I'm very leisurely about it. :)

The cloak looks very good, but its hard to tell form the picture how many highlights there are. I'd let one of the professional guys give you advice really, but all I'd say is perhaps another wash on the beard, looks a bit too white to be Gandalf the Grey. :)
