I agree with the guys above - very clever mini selection, appropriately based and adapted.

I wasted a lot of time and money trying to come up with the perfect lighting studio, then one day I needed to take a quick picture and didn't have time to get out my whole set up. So I dropped my "stage" on my painting desk and took a picture. It worked great so now I just take pics on my painting table, using the lights I use to paint.

Image
Lights are 2 Ikea(OOP) desk lights that clamp on to either side of my table. I bring them down, just out of camera view as they are not very strong.

Image
I also have a 100watt overhead light that is a cheap work light. Like $5 at a hardware store.

Image
Here's my "stage" as I call it. 2 pieces of foam insulation glued together. Painted like I do my bases. The cloud back drop is something I got from a craft store years ago. I think in an after Christmas sale.

Image
The trees are Woodland Scenics, with some clump foliage thrown in.

At some point, I plan a little upgrade to my stage. I want to improve the backdrop and add some scenic elements, but time is in short supply.

Cheers,

That's a nice idea!
Stage looks very good! Maybe someday I'll give it a try myself.

This is a really great idea. I've been using a milk jug lightbox with a white piece of paper in the back. It does the job but is kind of lackluster, especially since most of my minis are painted to a tabletop, rather than showcase, standard. Thanks for the inspiration!

A very clever set-up. It takes the hassle out of the photography, saves time and looks great. The sky background is very neat and gives me ideas for similar set-ups or variations on that theme - one could use large photos from old calendars featuring wild landscapes for example (mountains, rivers, forests, deserts - change the backdrop to suit the minis).

Brilliant idea. I will look around for useful calendar back drops now. Thanks.

Just some quick updates on the many many projects on my painting table.

Image
24 Orcs almost done. Another 24 behind this batch. With 22 more being farmed out to a friend.

Image
Finishing a 2nd Reaper Bones Werewolf.

Image
If you want me to buy a figure, just tell me it's OOP! I was watching ebay for the figure Gildor Inglorion. On one auction, I almost spent $100 for the box set, Defenders of the Shire, but pulled back at the last minute. Then going thru my stuff, I found a box of "Rangers" I picked up at a flea market years ago. It was the box set I was looking for and had all the time. So now they are on the painting table.

Image
Saruman needs a battering ram for those pesky straw heads.

Image
Thanks to my obsession and Ebay, I manged to track down all 9 different metal sculpts of the Ringwraiths. 5 are done, 4 to go. One had a busted sword, which I think helped keep the price down. Easy peasy fix. Bonus points if you can identify the bitz it came from.

Image
Erestor, Glorfindel and Elrond 99% done. The figure up front is being painted up for my kids. She is a character from the video game The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, Andriel, Elven Loremaster(wizard). A friend of mine, Lou did some minor conversion from the Plastic Wood Elfs. Now I need 2 more, for the other characters, Eradan(Ranger) and Farin(Dwarf).

Is that sword from a plastic Numenorean swordsman? If so it fits perfectly and I may have to pinch the idea for a broken Ringwraith of my own.

Good to see someone else who is willing to put in the extra effort for the X-Wing game too. I've found it to be a lot of fun and deserving of the extra effort for gaming boards.

It's a hand and sword from the Empire State Troops box. It's a little large but it works for Ringwraiths. I just cut away the Ringwraith's bladeless hand, cut away the forearm of the Empire sword arm, and glued it on to the wraith.

The Numenorean would work just as well.

They all look great but I would like to see them against a clearer background, they will stand out better.

They've been on my table for a long time, but I finally got around to finishing them. All nine different metal Ringwraiths

Now I have to start on the mounted versions, only 3 different poses though. Not counted named Wraiths mind you.

Cheers, Xin

I've added some new troops to my Gondor line up. GotFC or Guards of the Fountain Court. These walking tanks will add some punch to my battle line. I didn't paint these, I got them off ebay in 2 different groups. But I did touch them up to give them a cohesive look and painted the bases to match the rest of my troops. I have more unpainted that I will do at a later date.

And on the painting table next will be the start of a Fiefdom Ally

I love these figures. I have a couple somewhere that I must paint. Great job on yours and I hope mine will look as good.

Its a pity we didn't see more of them in RotK - such a glorious uniform. Nicely painted!
