Well done. The textures of the rock is first rate.Your painting is always top notch. The cave is nice. The waterfall and tree are very good first attempts. They take a huge amount of practice and time. 8)

Thanks everyone and nice to hear from you Charlie.
I am seriously disappointed in the photos though, they just aren't right and give the whole thing an image that is far cleaner than the reality. I will have to re-work them and post some more. Some of the colours are too bright and perhaps the angles aren't the best.
The problem is with a model on this scale I cannot get anything to diffuse the light and had many attempts at different camera settings to get to this point.
It is so disappointing to spend months on something that a photo does not capture. This is proving to be my nemesis.

Great looking water cascade, you have captured it perfectly.

That is pretty sweet but the walls let it down IMO. Everything else is done to such high quality but the walls are just a bit lacking. Take the walls off and this is top class pal. Should be pleased.

Both of those look great! I totally forgot about this (that happens after going back to uni and then returning home again), when's the deadline? Is it end of June or end of July?

Dito. The diorama looks great and the cascade is fantastic! But the plain walls... I don't know.. they tear the whole thing down :(
You could add some "brickwork" or parapets of cardboard. Such details would bring the wall to life :)

Great work Adanedhel! I'm sure the whole thing looks much better in real life anyway. I'm pretty jealous of your figures too! Well done.

Its ok by me Gandlaf, good shots. If you feel like doing 1 more, I might suggest one looking down over the waterfall to get a good idea of the overall thing.

I have not been a very active member of this forum as of yet. With eight days to the end of the contest I still feel I should enter. I have a few unpainted minis and time to spare....

....I'll be back.

Sadly, I've not finished. :( I must remember: if the only chances to work on it are during term breaks, it's probably not wise to start a project like this, which requires dedication and all that.

Just in time, with about 50 minutes to spare – I managed to paint the ten figures in a single day, and complete the diorama. Here is the final proof pic of the figures:

And without further ado, pics of the completed diorama, titled “Fire undoing stone”:

Details of the combatants flying about:

The dead Uruk seen on the ground near the ladder was painted for the Tampere model show back in February.

More details:

…and finally, a night light shot, with an added LED light under the top plume of smoke.

Enjoy!

Well done! The explosion is first rate.It looks very much like black powder smoke! The details with the blocks bursting apart are my favorite. 8) 8) 8)

Excellent work Celevue!
I am disappointed that I couldn't enter - i tried a few projects but couldn't get the things necessary to do them right. Maybe something smaller next time.

I know I'm a day late but I wasn't planning on entering this and the diorama challenge wasn't even on my radar. However, seeing the posts come up last night of people entering it reminded me that I've inadvertently created a possible entry for this without thinking about it. It's certainly more display board than diorama but hopefully it will be eligible for entry despite being a day late. I'll post some WIP pictures below, haven't got any proof but hopefully anyone who's been following my posts on the FB group or my WIP thread will know that I built the board and painted all the models this year so I could take the army to Throne of Skulls. So, without further ado, I give you my entry, The Battle of Five Armies:
