Will do, Christmas tomorrow I'll be unwrapping him then, the glue is getting sticky and the airbrush compressor is getting hot!

Oh Yes, thanks for asking.Hes in the box, have had family around all day so have not had chance to do anything on him

Hopefully tomorrow night i will photograph him, wash all the "release agent" off him and start the long process of assembly.

Will hopefully have pictures tomorrow. :D

Started at last, the first thing i did was to wash all the resin parts in warm soapy water and scrubbed gently with a worn tooth brush, this is important and a stiff new brush could remove some of the detail. Please note the cleaning is very important and something Forge World always used to stress, if you don't its like applying paint to glass and will easily come off.

These are all the pieces -

These are for "I am Frodo" -

The instruction, from the side of the inner box -

Off now to dry fit and pin the joints, will most more as he progresses.

TOTAL TIME SO FAR 1 HOUR

Brilliant to see this underway and I get the feel of a long sort of tutorial as you regularly update, if you don't mind that is.
I think it may be worth leaving the wings off for now for ease of painting the body.
In face how about painting the head detail before applying and doing the skin ?

It is fantastic! The box alone is incredible...and the dragon leaves me speechless! The details are absolutely incredible.

Thanks for sharing!

Ugh, the more I see it the more I want it. Give it the job it deserves, even if it takes years!

That is what i wanted to do, but looking at the joins of the wings to the body they will need a bit of filling, i will spray the hard to reach parts underneath before gluing, the same with the back of smaugs throat. Also there is a gap joining the head to the neck.

Thanks for all the encouragement and you bet Gene its going to be a long project, spent 5 hours, sawing, cutting, sanding, drilling, pinning and filling! After all that i only have 2 legs a neck and half a tail attached, all the joins need pinning, it's really heavy and huge.

Going to give my hands a rest tonight and do some gentle painting :-D

TOTAL TIME 6 HOURS

Wow, the amount of work is phenomenal. Is that a mold line running down the middle of the right leg ? (2nd photo, the leg on the left side, as you look)
Aaah, yellow eyes of death from the springer warg :o (3rd photo)

no, its the shape of the Scale on the leg, there is very few mold lines, one nasty one on the side of the lower jaw which took a bit of work and some on the claws, apart from that the quality of the model is incredible.

Well spotted on the Warg! Shes a Sprocker, half Cocker Spaniel and half Springer Spaniel, and a real hands full!

Good progress so far , it's certainly a beastie :)
I am amazed at the amount of work that's needed to get the parts to fit , for nearly £300 i would expect the fit to be a lot better than it seems to be . Personally i would have much rather seen this kit in plastic , not a fan of resin at all .

Thanks for all the encouraging comments, much appreciated. My fingers are cut to bits would you believe! Now attached the claws to the front wings and started to paint the base for a bit of light relief. Tomorrow i plan to start painting the underside of the wings and body before attaching.

Taggart - I agree it would have been better in plastic, an interesting comment on the Perry Bros FaceBook page is they also think it should have been. There isn't to much gap filling and IMO the quality is superb.

Anyway the state of play after this evening -

Would this thing be possible to paint without an airbrush ? I may have to find that out as I can't afford to buy both.
The airbrush and compressor I want are the same price as Smaug....
The base is taking shape nicely, some nice variation in the gold colours.
