I have to say that those are the best conversions I have ever seen!! :yay:

It helps to be able to sculpt, obviously. I wish I had that particular skill. But more than that, you clearly have an innate sense of how the human (Elf) body works to get the poses that good!

I'll keep following this with great interest.

At long last I have finished my dead swordsman and cast him.
He has turned out pretty well. The only thing I'm not happy with is the thumb on the shield arm as it didn't cast properly. It doesn't matter though because I can fix it easily enough with a bit of green stuff.

I can answer that. They're home casts.

At first glance Nathan i thought you had just swapped the wargear from one hand to the other, but a closer inspection reveals that you've reworked the cloth on the entire bottom half too. And nicely done too. I really should go and paint up the foot and mounted conversions i did of your dead dragon warrior. He is to be my house ruled captain of the dead.

Bizzare Warstar, I cast my sculpts myself using Tiranti hand casting equipment as it costs a fortune to send them off and I only produce small numbers of models, mainly for myself. It's magic when you see your first cast come out in shiny metal. I love the process.

When I was a teenager (a long time ago!) I went to an open day at GW's old site, which was great fun. I saw people sculpting with gs and casts being made and thought, "I'd love to do that one day!"

You've been looking carefully, Dave! You're right, of course.
I'm now wondering about the next step. Perhaps a spearman or changing the hand position with the sword to get more variety. Not that I've got time as work is really stressful at the moment with loads to do! The minis provide a bit of light relief.

I'm trying to give up this hobby as I'm so obsessive it's crazy but I find it hard (that's the nature of obsessions I suppose).

sounds like a very rewarding process, casting your own, such a creative triumph. I remember reading ukfreddy's article on it a good while ago and was inspired to get dug in, I bought miniatures instead though and it totally slipped my mind until now.
Giving up the hobby?...seems harder to give up than finding the time for it. I tried putting my miniatures and tools away but its hopeless, theres always something that catches the imagination.

Aaah! Help me! I picked up a paintbrush and got busy with some warriors of Minas Tirith... as if I don't have enough already! But I dream of rank upon rank of shining warriors ready for battle, to hold back the tide of darkness that lies buried in the heart of blue foam and storage cases in the attic.

Currently I'm playing a large army of Gondor against my son with his evil horde. The stalwart warriors are holding their ground.

Oh no! It's worse! I just bought another 90 warriors of Minas Tirith on eBay!

The OCD kicks in...
