I experimented with a kind of "extreme highlights" on the clothing - quite dark base colors with only a bit lighter highlights and then a very sharp and light highlight on the edges. Not yet sure if I like the style or not. The edges look great from gaming distance, but I still hesitate a bit.

They do look really cool. The one on the left I think needs tighter extreme highlight but apart from that they are looking very nice.

It works in some places, but not others. I don't think the effect is pulled off here, or at least not in general. The jump from dark to light is too extreme. Have to say though, you've done a wonderful job on the skin tones. Those faces are hard to redeem, I've never completely managed it.

I agree with the comments of Argish and Gene, the sharp highlights are not as sharp as they should be. For the next batch I added a couple more layers to smoothen the highlight a bit, but I'm still not entirely happy with it. I have to admit that towards the end I got tired and sloppy but I had to crunch them for the Tale of 20 Painters. yeah yeah, excuses… :-) They look nice on the tabletop but of course it would be good that they would survive closer inspection too. I may have to tidy up some of the lines a bit.

Éomer on foot and mounted for the November painting challenge. I did not finish in time, but hopefully I get them done next week because I need him for a game. The armour took more time than I expected.

Excellent skin tones Pasi, face kind of reminds me of Michael Jackson. Remove the sword and we have the classic BAD pose. Ow!!!!

Great work :-)

 Maybe I'll add a microphone to the hand...

That face was really a lot of fun to paint, very detailed compared to the plastic elves.

I managed to finally finish my Eomers (game starting in two hours):

Hey Pasi
I really like what you did with your wood elves. The sharp highlight works well when they are all together as a group - and would really stand out in a battle scene. These are tedious to paint. I never want to see another flowing cloak again!

And the elf captain is done. I wanted to show a couple of more wip shots but we have had five hours of daylight now that it is the darkest part of the year, so photography has been a bit challenging. Well, painting too. I miss the summer and 20 hours of daylight per day.

I've been so busy painting my January entry for the Tale of 20 painters that I have forgotten to post any progress pictures! Well, here is a set of unfinished sentinels and a banner bearer:

Image

I tried to paint these guys similar to the previous warriors, but a bit more detailed than the regular warriors. The plastic elf warriors are disappointingly undetailed and ugly miniatures; I sneeze better looking elves our of my nose on a bad day, but these sentinels and the banner bearer that is practically the same model as the third sentinel, they are great minis! I really enjoyed painting these guys. The leftmost guy looks a bit too warhammery for my tast, but the other three are really good sculpts.

I have been thinking about a greyish blue and green for the banner so that it would match nicely with the cloth colours of my elves, but I don't have any idea about the design so far.

They are beautiful! Gonna be good to see what you do with the banner.

I know what you mean about the plastics. Quite frustrating to paint with their lack of details.
Hoping to get my hands on some of these metals at some point.

These look great Pasi. I really like the colouring of the leaf brooches, nice stand out detailing.
