Hey guys, I'm back with what people might say is a rather large update. I'm about a week late on the ToLP's, but what the hey. Uni is once again a pain in the behind - although I suppose it'll be worth something when I finally finish it  that could be a ways off though.

Firstly I finally finished the two rangers:
Image
Image

...Started work on Saruman
Image

And basically completed Faramir

For this month I've got Cirion, more WoMT, and Madril planned so stay tuned!

Nice to see you still find time for painting with Uni upon you.

Rangers are my favourites, those smooth transitions are just lovely. Plus they have that 'bushy' climate going on.

Saruman IMO is the weakest mini so far, but I'm not going to evaluate him on this stage. You should really give him couple more highlights or shades.

Faramir has got really nice Armour, maybe to weak shades but it's just a matter of oppinion ;)

Very nice work mate. The Rangers are phenomenally good, like the predominant use of browns, rather than greens.

Saruman is coming along nicely, skin is great, and Faramir is, well, shiny and armoured looking.

:D

Hey guys, just a quick update from me. The holidays were a perfect opportunity to procrastinate from everything( I'm so good at it  ) and so I've managed to half finish my 3 KOMT for the month. I've still got 2 horses and one actual knight to finish painting. Those will come later.

For now I'd like to show you a sneaky-peek at my current WiP project, which is none other than Legolas. I still have the old Fellowship metal, and I decided to strip it ages ago, because I want to use it as a replacement mini for my MoM box set. There's nothing like wooing people into the game with nice mini's if you get me

Anyway, I tried a different approach with this one. Instead of just copying the GW guide, I tried to mimic the movie colours. Here is my take on it:

Anyways, let me know what you think :) This is the first time I've decided to go beyond my generally monochromatic colourschemes.

Some good highlighting of greens going on there.

The upper limb of Legolas's bow looks a bit bent though!

@Naglefaar:
1.Catchatan Green:Chaos Black,
2.highlight of Catchatan on its own.
3.glaze of snakebite leather, starting at the top and brushing down.
4.then highlighted the cloth with Catchatan Green:Snakebite Leather.
5.add Bleached bone in very small amounts to the previous mix
6.repeat this stage until your mix is 50:50 of BB and the original mix
7.glaze the robes again with snakebite leather
8.glaze the robes with snakebite leather:bleached bone.

Hey guys, just a small update from me. I was having trouble taking pictures of the KOMT as the armour just seems to be spewing light everywhere, so you can't actually see the paintjob. And tips?

In other news, Legolas is progressing slowly. I'm currently on the third highlighting stage for the face, with 2 more to go. Here's some incredibly terrible pics to show the progress:

And here is Cirion, which I painted for the Awards. He didn't do very well unfortunately but I think its more due to the pictures i've taken which struggle to show whats going on in the deeper recesses. Not to mention detail is obscured by all those light reflections.

Thanks for looking :)
EDIT: It may just be me, but photobucket hasn't scaled the pics down. sorry about that:?

First off, excellent progress with Legolas, his facial details appear to be identical to Bloomy's. As for taking pics of armour, the trick I guess is to not use flash, here's one of a (WIP) warrior. Note, the natural light is coming in from the right side and from behind the camera. You can't fully be rid of the 'shining' though.

<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1040184.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1040184.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I remember seeing Cirion over on TLA and loved the new colour scheme. Much more in theme with the Gondorians than the GW version. He looks fabulous! You definitely got a few votes from me

As for photobucket, you can change the size of the images you want to upload, eg. 800x600, 640x480.etc

Can't wait to see more of Legolas :D

Thanks for the comment guys :)

Orriiight so for todays update I have some orcs and more progress on Legolas. I'll also show my dilemma with the KoMT. Legolas doesn't need much more, just the hair and teeny-tiny details to go and he should be done. I'll have to attempt to paint his eyes later, cause the last time I tried was an utter disaster so I just made the shadows instead.

So firstly...the KoMT:
gahhhh
Image

I had some orcs that had been stripped a while ago, and as a break from study, and as a method of getting away from the silver behemoth which is Minas Tirith, I decided to just paint up a few of them. The banner is still WIP, and the two others are in the final stage of completion.

Finally we have good old Legolas - he's turning out really well, the only problem is now I want to have the whole Fellowship at this standard
 aaaah life is tough!

As you can tell I'm still playing around with the Camera position and lamp position. One day I'll get another lamp and get it all working together. Although that will be when pigs fly.

Cheers!

More updated goodness time! I just finished uni finals, so after about 3 weeks of working my butt off and attempting to cram in as much as possible about ADHD prevalency rates, group inter-biases and language development (I'm doing a psychology double-major at uni, for those of you that didn't know  ) I'm finally at the stage where I can take a break...for the next 4 months :D

Anyways whilst I was doing study during exams I found my self hankering for some discontinued mini's, so I ended up getting Haldir and Bilbo for a steal off ebay. I'll be looking into doing Haldir eventually as my goal for the holidays is to get the latter half of the Fellowship of the Ring Journey book completely playable. So here are the suspects in question...

Image

I've also done some more work on some Uruk-hai - generally just updating paint jobs in this case to stay with the standard of everything else. I've got quite a lot more to go though!

Image

The metallics are a bit shiny, so for the next batch I think I'll hit them with a few more washes of Scorched Brown and Chaos black.

Finally I haven't really been able to work much on Legolas, however I'm about 1/3 of the way on the hair. I've started on the bow as well. What I've noticed is that Legolas' detail on the quiver is actually silver when looking in the stills and posters. Everyone paints it as gold :/ Oh well, time to deviate from the norm, yet again!

Image
Image

(Sorry if the pics of Legolas are too big!)

Cheers!
