I'd also go with 3 and 2 for the winner and runner-up. People might just paint a model badly and quickly for the chance of a gold coin, if they were to be given out randomly. I also agree that articles writing should remain the major way of getting gold coins, its something that benefits all of the community.

I'm quite happy at participating in a paint off. I can just give any good heroes to my brother and I would be glad for an excuse to buy more evil heroes.

I think that 3 coins is a sensible reward for first place. However, instead of 2 coins being given to the runner up I think that the Judges should award the 2 coins to the most improved painter, that way it encourages people to try harder each time. This should only come into effect from the 2nd paint off onwards. (Since there is currently no real basis to compare a finished model to one previously painted by a painter for the Paint-Off).

I think we'll just stick with the 3 & 2 scheme then. That was my preference anyway. However, if there is someone who you feel is absolutely deserving, but didn't place in the polling, you are always more than welcome to donate one of your own coins!
