That's given me one or two things to think on.

Thanks for your thread Brent and I love what you have done and the pose.
I have pretty much much it together so I will be tackling it more or less as one item !!!

At least if nothing else it will test me...

Hopefully between BrentS and mine you have something to draw from. I always find it useful to see other minis and paint schemes to see what I like and what I dont.
I wanted tusk weapons but I couldn't decide which way to go about them, after watching the Mumak charge a few more times I made the decision.
Then there are choices about war paint or not to, rigging, how much if any and of course the base.
Take your time with it and you'll have a model that will be admired for a long time.

Like I said at the start I don't have a great deal of time due to other commitments. So I am looking at a slow time project, but getting it right or as best as I can, that's my aim.

I've re thought the Howdah and managed to safely take it apart for ease of painting.

Now I've thought about setting the base into a plinth to creat a larger area. I would then add extra figures to resemble the charge.
I'm thinking of an Orc pike stuck in the chest of a Horse and a \rider of Roham charging down another Orc.
I think the scene would look interesting and also impactive.

What do you think ?

It sounds good but perhaps the extra figures should relate more to the Mumak, not just the battle in general?

For instance you could add:

- a Rider of Rohan firing his bow at the Mumak.
- a horse rearing and the Rider falling off.
- some Horsemen riding away from the oncoming Mumak.
- or even Eowyn doing her special two bladed attack...

(If you watch the scenes from the film again you might get some more ideas).

Mmmmm soungs interesting King Elessar.

It is getting the grey matter going. Eowyn, I think, would only work with Merry on the back.

That's not necessarily a problem though and gives more food for thought.

Perhaps the Orcs should be shelved but maybe a Haradrim / Easterling or two may look more appropriate ???

Yeah, they would probably fit the whole "theme" better. 8)

As advised by BrentS I've managed to detach what I can of the Howdah without causing any damage.
The top two segments were too tightly fixed but I will still be able to get round these.

Image

Next up though is the unlucky Rohirrim.

I was lucky a long time ago to be given some Rohirrim. These have been sat in my cupboard waiting for a conversion...the time has arrived.

Image

They are as I got them. All in the standard pose. 2 axe, 2 spear and a bow.

I've decided one of the axemen fits the bill to have a tusk through his gut.

So far I've swapped his left arm for the left arm of the bow. The bow is still in hand but is now down at his side but bent at the elbow. This is to give the impression of his body already giving up.

I've also cut his left leg and am in the process of remodelling his upper thigh so that this leg will stick out infront of him. I'm hoping this will give the impression of the impact of the tusk.

The axe has been cut away and I've drilled a hole through his clenched fist. I may yet cut the fingers and re-position them in an open handish sort of pose.

The photo's of these will follow in due course.

I've also got a couple of Rohirrim captains and standard bearers. These may not get touched...much, but one or both will be used to add some more dynamic effect to the finished piece

It all sounds good. It would be neat if you could attach one rider and horse to the base with a wire and position him just next to one of the tusk as if he had just be flung into the air.

I can't wait for the pictures. 8) This is going to look awesome if you can make it look like he's actually impaled.

I'm glad to see that you were able to "disassemble" the howdah. Hopefully that will make it easier for you to paint it up.

I'm looking forward to seeing your conversions... even if it does pain me to see dead Rohirrim.

I too hate to see a dead hero from the mighty Rohan, but such is war.

I will aim to even things up a bit with a dead Haradrim or two. Though I am thinking of aiming this at the initial charge against the Mumak's which didn't go at all well.

With Xmas round the corner I don't know how much I can get done, but I am hoping to finish this poor chap by then.

I'm still mulling over some other ideas, like re-positioning the Standard Bearer so that he does his own impailling on a Haradrim but that needs some more thought as to how the flag will be affected. Hopefully I can keep it attached to the spear as it is, just the whole thing at horizontal ???

Like I say though this will be slow time so bear with me, I hope it will be worth it...

Here we go then, I have managed to finish the unlucky chap.

As you can see I changed my mind on a couple of things. The bow wasn't working for me so I changed about and added his spear.
It's meant to look like he was about to throw but got a tusk in his gut and his arm is falling away.
I re sculpted the chainmail and cloak and his upper left thigh.
The left hand was from an archer with the bow removed and a hole drilled through the hand.
He was also too upright, so I cut horizontally across his midrift, almost completely through the figure to leave a 2mm gap. Then I bent him forward, gluing his middle so it joined again.

There is still a slight gap where the tusk comes through, but that will be filled at a later date, after the tusk is painted and he is finally stuck in place.

My hope is that he looks realistic. I'm pretty pleased but now the acid test is for you to decide.

Any comments and criticisms and more than welcome.

This looks fantastic! When you paint him, remember to add lots of blood and gore. :-D

You could have his horse running past beneath the impaled rider as if it had just happened

That is the plan, I intend to include a few Rohirrim and a couple of Haradrim in the scene.
The base will be roughly 30 x 25cm so it will give room for about 8 - 10 extra figures.

I have about 30 Rohirrim that are painted and a few that aren't. So I will make my choices from there.

I was looking at adding an odd Easterling, but I haven't got any, so I will see if one crops up as I don't intend to buy a full set for one figure.

I will be starting on the base next. I intend to include the Mumak base but already I;m thinking there is too much in a small area and to replicate that across the base will end up looking a mess and confusing.

My plan is to cut the Mumak base up and ' dot ' the dead and fallen in two or three clumps at the Rohirrim side of the base. There will be the Rohirrim charge with them fanning either side of the beast and of course the empty horse !!!
There will be a small rocky outcrop in one corner from the Mumak side with a Haradrim archer taking aim.

That's my plan so far and will no doubt keep me busy for a while.

Any thoughts from anyone will be very much appreciated.

Great work on the impalement. It looks really good. I can't wait to see all your ideas come together.
