You think he didn't know that? :P

Very nice model Josh, the shading is infinitely better than anything I've done.
Seriously.

Thanks for the comments, guys. :)

Any progres on the anorian king

Ugh, the arnorian king, the bane of my existence.

Nope, no progress on him. I did a little work on him awhile ago, but I watered down some of the green too much and it flooded all my work on the cloak and some of the fur as well. It's not likely he'll get anymore attention for awhile. :(

I should have another update for you tomorrow, I'll be starting work on his face sometime today. :)

The brown highlights don't seem to blend as well as the green ones do Josh, perhaps a wash is needed to smooth it over?

Hey guys :)

I did a little more painting on one of the Wood Elves I received from Billy in a trade awhile back. I figured I'd use these three as test models to decide what color scheme I wished to use. Here's my latest progress, the brown cloth and the sash are both nearly finished.

C&C welcome. :)

Thanks for the comment. :)

One thing I'd like to ask of you all, is which color scheme do you prefer? I'm having a tough time deciding. :(

Here's another wood elf color scheme for you. I think that I like this one the best, but I'm still not totally sure. :?

So, any opinions as to which scheme is best for the brown cloth?

Nice painting Josh, I still really like the colour of the Sash that you have painted, so I'd go with that one

I like the brown highlights on this Elf but it's more a colour I would associate with leather. I'd have to agree with Gorgoroth that I prefer the previous one! 8)

And by the way, I saw your meassages in the Chat Box about Wiktor's Elven colour scheme and can tell you that the capes on these two:
http://www.one-ring.co.uk/phpBB2/album_comment.php?pic_id=7220 were painted simply with a basecoat of Catachan Green, worked up to Camo Green. (I asked him about them earlier this year). Hope it helps!

Hey all. :)

I purchased a box of Wood Elves for my army yesterday and started work on one of them today. He only needs his skin painted and then he's done. He's a bit of a rush job really, I only spent about an hour on him. I wanted to see which colors I liked and disliked on the Elves. So far, I've decided that the colors used for the cloak and tunic do not look very good, and will be used sparingly throughout the rest of the force. Anyways, here he is...

Looking at the pictures now, he looks slightly glossy. That must simply be from the strong sunlight the photo was taken in, as he doesn't look glossy in real life. I need to improve my photography. :?

Edit: Hmmm, looking at it now the hair color is also terrible looking. These Wood Elves are going to drive me crazy. :o

Well, nice work on the sword, either way. 8)

You're too kind, Josh... really.

That ugly duckling will be repainted eventually. I'm just having such a hard time finding a color scheme that works. I'm going to read The Hobbit again, so maybe I'll find inspiration there. :)

The way I see it, leaving purely constructive feedback inspires the person to keep trying and impress even more people. :)

I've re-looked at all your pics, and I think that your problem may be that you are really trying variations of the same scheme--green and brown. While there is nothing wrong with this, maybe green and brown in general isn't what you're looking for.

Have you decided whether you want it to be fall/summer/spring/winter? Maybe a purely green scheme would be nice, with dark greens prevalent and maybe a mottled gray-and-green cloak? Or an elf all in dark, rustic browns and grays?

Anyway, I hope you find a color scheme that suits you.

I'll keep watching this thread with interest.....I'm starting to gain a little bit of interest in elves...... :-D

Thanks for the feedback, Josh. I think I'm going to be using mostly dark browns and greens, as those are the areas I've been most satisfied with so far.

Thanks again for the comment. :)

Nice painting Josh, although the hair looks really flat, try painting blond hair like this:

Basecoat: Mix Bestial Brown and Snakebite Leather in equal quantities

First Highlight: Snakebite Leather

Successive Highlights: Keep on adding Bleached Bone to the Snakebite Leather

Hope it helps

looks good but you might want to give it a shade/highlight on the cloak.
and I have to agree with gorgoroth on the blond hair.

keep us updated.

The hair definately needs improvement. Try Gorgoroth's method, it's pretty much the one I use and it looks great!

Hey guys.

I did a little work on the green cloth of this next Wood Elf, it's not too much, but its a start. I also basecoated the cloak, but I've yet to highlight or shade that area yet. Any thoughts?
