the earliest dated figures I have are 1979.

I have not been able to find any older than that in my collection at least .The Hobbit movie came out in Late 1977.

LOR Greatest Hits a blast from the past

46 years old -
Reminiscing....
first toys soldiers bought for me came as 2 mounted ho/oo cowboys and indians (Giant style) on a little blister that you could get in a newsagent for 2p. I was about 4 !!

It was all downhill after that, followed by timpo and Britain swoppets, Airfix and Atlantic.

Then discovered lead 25mm and it was Minifigs/Hinchcliffe/Ral Partha

Then 25mm became 28mm (but still called 25mm for some years....)

do you remember....
Model Engineer Exhibition in Seymour swimming baths in London (25mm stuff on sale)
the Minifigs shop in Victoria
Citadel shop in Oxford st (next to the Plaza)
Sales in the GW Hammersmith shop
Salute in Kensington Town Hall

......then came inflation and we used to joke about the possibility of the £1 lead figure !

Now have 3 boys to go shopping with and one day they'll get all my vast collection
(the GW LOTR armies are but a tiny percentage :) )

You just don't grow out of it.

Hi all ..

A newly arrived member of this community..

I'm 51 been wargaming since 13.. by way of WRG, D&D, Warhammer (yep the early '80s) etc..

A gap.. then rediscovered when son got into 40K and I found all my old stuff lodged in my dear mother's loft..

Keeps mind together in midst of rubbish I have to deal with in life/work - escapism in modest doses is good for the psyche?

Keep on gamin' :-D

I've got you all beat, and I often ask my wife, "Is this stupid?" or "Why am I seemingly obsessed with this?" I've been playing board games since I was a lad in the 50s. Toy soldiers and slot cars, too! I discovered Heroscape last winter and play it with the wife and her grandson when he's at our house. He loves it.
Just discovered the LOTR combat hex game. Will start play since I just received a lot of figures I bought on eBay. Will use Heroscsape tiles, castles, and bridge for the battlefields. I like the already-painted figs. Maybe I should have a go at painting, but I'd need one of those magnifying devices! I also have some molds from Hirstarts.com to make terrain pieces. So, NO you're not too old. It keeps the mind sharp I say.
