Yeah sometimes photos suck at capturing the real color of mini's. Though i agree, it should just have hints of brown, just enough to warm up the grey not be entirely brown.

I've had a complete re-think on the tusks following your invaluable advice and I've come up with this

Ignore the tusks at the back as they are only basecoated and set the yellow that I hope you can see the hint of on the finished tusks. I have worked from that up to what you see.
So how am I doing ?

And one for the skin and the overall look so far

I may give the skin a touch of brown here and there just to create some more 'life' but after the tusks I will move on to the ropes and the howdah.

A real big improvement, nothing to say about that now, except for 'Love the tusks!' :p
The mumak-skin is very nice as well. Keep it going!

Yeah I think you have done a marvelous job on the tusks. They look very real and life like. The skin is also good. Good job.

ah, the skin looks much better in this image. Don't change it.
I love the highlights.

Been back at work so the progress has slowed to my usual snail pace. I have been working on the ropes though and crikey, is that a job and half.

I'm just finishing off the ropes on the other side and although the picture doesn't show it too good, the ropes on the howdah have been done.
If you've noticed the whole figure has a shine. That's because I have coated finished parts with varnish to protect it. I was finding that my clumsy handling was removing highlights so I now gloss as I finish each part.
The whole thing will get a few coats of Testors Dullcote once it's finished.

I am keeping everything written down with numerous photo's (I'm nearly at 100!!!) as I may still do an article when I'm eventually finished. I managed to work out a way to do the tusks relatively simply.

Next though is the wood. The wicker has been done to a dark brown that I am pleased with but I'm unsure of the main supports. My theory (and there is theory behind all my choices) is that the Haradrim would use different woods for different jobs - just as we do, making them differing shades.
So do I go a similar colour to the wicker or something a lot lighter. The ropes are highlighted to a bleached bone/skull white mix, so I still need to retain the contrast. :roll:

I haven't had the time to play with some ideas and get a feel so I once again ask for your valued opinion.

I don't want to mess with your wickerwork but I would think that the wicker would be a yellowish brown, similar to bamboo, with the supports a darker wood to keep the contrast. Great job by the way, hope you do get around to doing an article

Probably an error in my description - the wicker is highlighted up to bleached bone from a dark base. I'm reluctant to resemble bamboo as that generally is found in forests and the Haradrim are from the desert...sort of. Maybe I think too much :roll:

Maybe try and find some images of desert type cultures and see what woods you can find
