Hi :)
Recently I've become very interested in those little green orcs that go by the name of goblins, who dwell in the darkest regions of Khazad-Dum. I've always been interested in the goblins and there fellow monsters, probably due to the fact that they were the first models I got, and I was really captivated by Peter Jackson's representation of Khazad-Dum in The Fellowship of the Ring. I've already started to build some sets of Moria, being motivated by seeing the amazing work of lotrscenerybuilder. Now I want a Goblin army to proudly fight in those dark tunnels.
I was thinking of a 500pt LOME legal Moria Army. At 500pts, I think it would be too expensive to have a Balrog or the new Cave Drake, but I would perhaps like a few Cave Trolls. I'm not really sure of any army list at the moment, as I don't have the Khazad-Dum sourcebook yet. I was thinking of maybe starting this army for Christmas, which means I wouldn't be getting the book or models until then. So I was wondering if any of you nice people out there with the book, or a good knowledge of Goblins, could maybe give me some tips on what to get?
Many thanks :)

Okay if you dont have the khazad dum supplement the only you can get are Moria goblins warriors captains and cave trolls. So sure you have to get supplements. The supplement you must buy is the supplement of khazad dum.If you get this yu have many new goblins in your possesion. Now for the minis you should of course get some moria goblins, you can add goblins prowler which may be cost more but the backstab ablity will help, sure you may add a cave troll which fit perfectly, also giant bat has a nice special rule.As for heroes i suggest Druzhag

So if you are just starting goblins you should get a box or 2 of the goblin, 2-3 blister of prowlers , durburz and a shaman and captain. I would also get a Cave Troll or a drum. Druzhag is good, but he is better when you have beasts which if you want a moria army you wont have much of. Bat swarms are useful as well, but if you have to prioritize then 2 boxes of gobbos, 2 blister of prowlers, durburz, the shaman and a cave troll.
Right hope that helps.

The strength of goblins is numbers, and at 500 points a LoME legal army can have 50 models, so make sure you hit that. Nothing wrong with Durburz the Goblin King, he's a decent hero for his price. A shaman is almost essential for keeping your minions from running away once you're broken. A squad of prowlers and a couple trolls and you should be good. Personally, I also like to take bats, and pair them up with trolls. It makes dealing with enemy heroes, especially elves, a lot easier.

If you weren't going for Moria Druzhag is a lot of fun, but he really needs his animal minions to shine, and to get them with a Moria list you'd need an alliance with Dol Guldor which means you need another hero from there. So at that point level for a Moria list I wouldn't take Druzhag. However, if you create a Dwellers Below army, Druzhag with wargs, spiders and bats, along with a nice screen of goblins is really fun to play.

Hope that helps,

If you want to play competitively, 500pts is not a good choice for Goblins. Like whafrog said, you can only take 50 models, and most armies will hit that at 500pts. Thus, because they're taking the same amount of models as you, you lose your greatest strength: numbers. I'd aim for a 400pts, 600pts, or 700pts instead.

Okay guys thanks 8)
So I'll have a flick through the Khazad-Dum supplement next time I'm in my local GW, just to get a rough idea of the character and prowlers points cost. But otherwise basically I'm looking at about two boxes of Goblins, Durburz, a Cave Troll and a Shaman to start with?

Yes, imagine Glorfindel losing to a Cave Troll :) They also have a lot of wounds. Specs are in the Khazad-dum sourcebook I think.

first get the core stuff (goblins and durburz) then the shaman and captains, then the extras (prowlers, trolls, bats ect)

the troll is not nessesary, but is GREAT none the less. I've found success with the drum and lots of gobs and prowlers (but is harder to play).
once you've gotten gobs/durburz/shaman/troll/prowlers/bats, then you can look at stuff like the drum, another troll, and allies like wargs, the spider queen and druzhag

OH! and the blackshields are out. I havent seen their rules yet, but i believe that they are S4 and D6, so they are probably good to get too (get them the same time around prowlers). the blackshield command is really good from what ive heard (the shaman is amazing)

I've just seen the cave drake's profile :-D
Would it be good in a 500pts list?

Hard to say, I doubt there's been a lot of people playing with it. Mine's still in the box :) It certainly looks potent, and even though it's expensive, you can still hit 50 models at 500 points, even with Durburz and a Shaman...and can probably still squeak a few prowlers in there.

yeah I think it looks a pretty formidable monster to go up against. And noone I play with uses monsters like trolls or ents, so the only things it would be up against is soldiers. And obviously some heroes. But it would still be tough to kill it. And on another note, Are the one-ring awards still on or are they over?

The awards were delayed do to the upgrade to the site. So they will be happening once the site is back up completely.

I got the Khazad-Dum book there a few days ago (for €3, GW is such a rip-off) and have made a few army lists:

Durburz 65pts
Moria Goblin Shaman 45pts
Cave Drake 150pts
Cave Troll 80pts
16 Moria Goblins w/shield 80pts
16 Moria Goblins w/spear 80pts

Total: 500pts
4 might, 36 models

Durburz 65pts
Moria Goblin Captain 35pts
Moria Goblin Shaman 45pts
2 Cave Trolls 160pts
16 Moria Goblins w/spear 80pts
12 Moria Goblins w/shield 60pts
11 Moria Goblins w/bow 55pts

Total: 500pts
6 might, 44 models

I would say if you want the cave drake in the first list then drop the cave troll. its unnecessary and you could get some archers and some prowlers in there in place of him.
