I have many an unpainted Uruk-hai and a Mumak to paint with many others.
May your brush serve you well, contestants. Don't be too disappointed when you get beat! :D

   Well I have a dragon, mumak, balrog, a troll and an ent and a siege engine which all need work, and of course many infantry as part of a WOTR army so looks like this will be quite a competitive one :D Although I may get bogged down with it all..
Looking forward to this!

So I guess this means I'll be adding you guys to the participation list. LET'S GET IT ON!

Here's a few proof pics:
Now I wish it could be better than this but you can make them out. Here's my 8 Castellans
Image

And here's my fresh out of the box Finecast Dragon

And then there will be more still to come.

Question:
Is it ok to take a large group photo of all the models I hope to finish with the date clearly showing?
--or --
Do you prefer each small group (ex: x24 Rohan Warriors) taken separately to show the unpainted-ness :?:  of the models?

Such as this for the large group:
Image

--or--

This for the small group:
Image

Also, what would this count as point wise if anything?

Help? :x

I'll give the Palantir 1 point. If you can do a wide shot of all that you intend to paint with proof of date like in the first photo, that's perfect. But then I would like individual group shots to better see the models you intend on painting just like your second photo, no date here necessary.

I myself rather prefer doing a proof photo of individual groups with something that gives the date. Even though I still have a lot of miniatures waiting on the sidelines, I don't want to post any photos of them or a whole wide shot if I don't know if I'll eventually get to them for the challenge.

I just finished assembling the Dragon, I had no idea he was so small. I was expecting a bit bigger, the Mumakil kind of dwarfs it. And you guys talked me into bringing down the points for the mumakil  . I think the Drake is the same size as well. Well I'm not going to change the points system now, but to be honest I think the very large monster category is slightly over priced now that I have a closer look.

I still think the named heroes (ft) should get 2pts instead of 1pt. But, as was stated above, the points system is staying. Oh well.

Sacrilege-
Does the large group photo work, then for proof?
I'll get photos of each individual small group soon. I still have homework to do tonight.

Well it does give an overall idea what you're painting, but it makes it hard to exactly see what they are unless you state it. But you would only have to prove the date once if you have a large wide shot, you wouldn't have to be burdened anymore with putting minis in front of a computer screen or clock when doing smaller group shots. But yeah I think small group shots are more necessary for proof and you can do without the large shot if you want.

I did think about heroes being worth the extra point when on foot or mounted when I first introduced the points system to you guys. Because usually we tend to put a lot more detail into our heroes. Then I thought about it and came to the conclusion that it would cause a bit of contraversy. How much painting detail you put into a mini is subjective to the artist, some would put as much detail into their regular troops as well, some wouldn't put much effort into their heroes at all. Then there's the blurry line of who is a hero? Should Sauron, Balrog, Shelob, Treebeard, etc. cost an extra point for being hero monsters? Then there's game systems; the Castellans are heroes in SBG but a rare formation in Wotr and right now I'm painting a company of them. So this is why I left the question of heroes being worth more out of the equation.

Well I finally have my Dragon assembled and primed. Guess I'll use this photo for the Painting Challenge. The flash really lit it up, especially because it's all white.
Image
The Dragon couldn't have arrived at a better time, only reason why I'm painting it is because of the winter themed Painting Challenge and I always had a white dragon in mind before that. So normally I don't name my models, but I'll call this one Icingdeath for you R.A. Salvatore fans.

This little labor of love took forever to photo and upload :) Anywho, that is my entry. Included in the mass are a few Heros: Durzhag, Durberz, Prince Imrahil, Beorn, Gulhvar, captains, a 2 shamans.

For my future knowledge: Is it easier to upload into my album and then "link" the photos in a posting to save space on a thread (like this one) and time?

-Scar :puppy:

...now have to wait for the stores to open to go buy a case of primer!!!

True, but I know I will only be able to do a handful of my entry. Though I believe this will be a monthly event :D As long as I whittle down my backlog and stay on top of things I can see myself completing at least 2 full armies for SBG and WoTR. ...hopefully the others will be able to say the same.

Hahahahaha, yes! Finally a Salvatore reference. The battle against Ingeloakastimizilian was one of my favorite parts of The Crystal Shard. I look forward to seeing your completed work. No Pressure, :P.

Thanks WayUnder, if I could sculpt I would make my own companions of Mithral Hall and the rest of those major characters from the book. Who knows I might do it some day eventually. Right when I'm done with this backlog.

To the rest of you guys I was thinking over some things. Now this competition all relies on the honor system here and there are many loop holes in it to give yourself a high score, though it would defeat the purpose. I just hope nobody is planning on just giving their models a flat basic paint job with not a shred of drybrushing/highlights, all for the sake of scoring a hundred and sending everyone else to Bieberdom. Not expecting anyone to paint like it's the monthly Painting Challenge but we're not amateurs here even though I didn't specify any advance techniques is enforced in the rules. So don't pull the flat basic painting shtick, it's like camping in an online first person shooter game. Don't be CHEAP and have some sportsmanship in this regard. Now get on painting! 8)

Notice: Update to the Main Rules

Members can only join in up until December 15th now, and once you join you cannot go back. Resigning leads to suffering the consequences.

I made this so because I don't want any little critter that is lurking behind in the shadows, who is afraid to join in early, be taking proof pics of his own and when he feels secure enough in points or even over 100 he joins in at the last minute and sends everyone else into Bieberdom! Not that this scenario is likely to happen, but it is possible. Anyway half a month should be plenty of time for a member to decide if he wants to participate or not.
