I was playing game recently and my opponent copelled one of my heroes out of shadow lords pall
of darkness to shoot him. Now the question that arose was if shadow lord could compel my hero back again

Yup, the rule does not stipulate that it must be cast of an enemy model.

So, for example, I could move Aragorn 6in, and then compel him with Gandalf to move another 3in (all in the same turn), right?

Why would you want to Compel one of your own guys? The rules may be updated since the latest I've read; but last I read, Compel makes you pretty pathetic in a fight. If you Compel your own guy & your opponent manages to get one of his into base contact, you're almost guaranteed to lose the fight.

I think its more of an escape out of a bad situation style tactic. Could mean the difference between being charged by cavalry and charging the cavalry.

Sometimes you may simply want to get one of your expendable models into an important position to setup a ZoC block or otherwise hamper enemy movement / charge options, or you have an important model that just can't quite get out of range of being charged by an overwhelming foe and you may be able to Compel them the extra couple inches to safety. I've never seen anyone use Compel on their own model before, but it's an interesting option.

Ah, that makes sense.
Maybe I should find the time to get back into the game. If I can find rule updates without having to pay GW prices.

Are your last SBG rules one of the film-specific versions of the books? If so then you can usually track down the OR rulebook or even the smaller MoM book on ebay pretty cheap. I've also found so many people have moved away from the hobby in the last couple years that players at other LGSs within a 1hour drive usually have books for sale cheap (models still hold price a bit better).

If you already have the OR or MoM version of the rules and were just thinking there may have been an update since then don't worry. You already have the latest (and IMO well tuned) rules. There are new profiles that have been introduced (and profile tuning is the only significant thing in SBG that needs an update I believe) but most of those are available on the web.

I thought that you could only move a model once during the movement phase. Done such by either player. So if I read the rules correctly then the above example would be illegal. ((so once Aragorn was moved 6" then that is all, no matter if Gandalf or any other caster could cast the same spell on him)).

I'll have to double check, but I remember this coming up in a recent game and we went to the OR for clarification.

Most of these style spells will say "even if the model has already moved". I can't reference Compel specifically at this time, but I know the similar spell effect from the Sentinel song can still allow you to move the target model even if he did a full move. I imagine Compel is written very much the same. They usually only say you can't move the model into combat or harm themselves (can't jump off a cliff for example).

And I believe they also say that you can't move after the spell, but you can use the spell to move after they have normally moved. AKA: aragorn moves 6", then compelled 3" is okay, but aragorn compelled 3", move 6" is not okay. :)

Correct. None of this style spell lets you do anything after the forced move. You sometimes may have a combat penalty as well. It's not usually something that would be encouraged to use on your friend.

I see some of you have questioned why i would want to compel my own model, the reason i originaly asked was because in a recent game of contest of champions my champion was compelled out of SLs PoD and the question arose as to wether i could compel him back. Unfortunately we had a roll off and i lost so my champion died from massed bow fire losing me the game.

Not fun at all... Having played against a fellow whose primary objective seemed to be to cram as many models as he could into his High Elf army (and he usually did very well at it, too), the heroic porcupine is an old, useless friend of mine... :( You have my deepest sympathies.
