This dragon type thing has been lurking in my drawer for over a decade, now I finally got it assembled using the superglue-greenstuff method. Seems to be holding nicely. Now some filing and plenty of painting... Should I try pushing it to the Monsters contest?

Wouldn't be right that you're painting this while at the sametime there's a monster challenge going on and you wouldn't enter him. So glad to see you're in it again. I want to see what you'll bring from this bad boy.

Think I'll put my Glorfindel challenge progress here, to not spam the official thread. I've got him glued, filed and re-primed, now it's time to think of a color scheme. According to the Tolkien Gateway, he went about in a mantle embroidered in threads of gold, diapered with celandine “as a field in spring”. His vambraces were damascened with "cunning gold". So perhaps green, yellow and gold. Good for scouting. On the other hand, this brown/gold looks cool too... decisions, decisions...

I decided to go with browns and deep reds, with golden highlights. The flame of the torch is proving to be a challenge.

Work progressing. This Glorfy's face is rather featureless, it's a challenge to bring out contours with paint.

That is the tricky thing with Mithril's miniatures...every face looks very similar and they really don't have alot of detail, but I'm sure you'll do fine! :)

A bit of diversion: my budget spiders. Found a bag of the tiny buggers for €1.50. Halloween is such a nice time to acquire miniatures... Soon they'll pester my daughter's dwarves.

Great idea Ares, why have I never thought of that before? They turned out really well too.

Use some matt varnish, now your figures looks like candy.
Make the photos next to the sunshine, and dont use flashlight.
I like this dwarves, you should use more highlights.

Thanks for the comments! I'm practising highlights now with the Glorfindel mini. They're being quite a headache though, I'm having trouble painting a thin straight line with a brush.

The dwarves are meant for gaming table, they're good enough for that. The shine comes from the dipping varnish. But I may give them a matte varnish treatment, soon as I get around to it.

I noticed my spiders are smaller than the official GW ones. Doesn't matter in our domestic games, though.

The cheep spiders are cool. I found some cheep bats at party City for$.29 ea. I went ahead and mounted them on 40mm bases so I could use them for WOTR as well.

The final result of Glorfy, before varnish. Also trying out our new Nikon camera.

They made it, Arwen slew one of the Nazgûl and the others ran out of Will. They got only Pippin, who panicked and ran in the wrong direction.

We took a re-match of this scenario today, and I failed even more miserably. To add insult to injury, Sam beat a Ringwraith into submission with his trusty frying pan. Either the dice loathe me, or I am doing something seriously wrong. Snarl.

Progress on my Painting Challenge dwarfy. Some detailing and base still needs to be done. Hopefully I have time on Saturday.

I should have primed him with black, the grey Mithril prime shows still from the holes of the mail. Hopefully a wash or two does the trick.

My battle mandolinist for Elrond's Command Group received a cloak today. Not bad, considering it's the first greenstuff cloak I've done.

Now gotta resist bothering her until tomorrow...

The bard above is still WIP, but the hobbit girl for this month's contest has progressed some.

Only black undercoat at the moment. But next time I pick up the brush I'm going to give her some treatment too.
