The rules for obstacles are an exception to the rule that you have to be in base contact to fight, but they don't give any indication that they allow an exception for supporting as well.

Hmmm, yep thats Rules as Written, but there are clearly 'parallels' to be drawn from the rules on fighting across a defended obstacle...


I hate to use the "in reality" clause, because the rules stretch it in many ways, but I can't see how you would effectively support someone from behind a wall.

Perhaps a house rule that pikes could reach but spears cannot as the wall is effectively one model wide say....

I had a look through the book today to double check things. It comes down to who is in the combat and I would say that it's only really the first rank. Sure the second and third with pikes contribute an attack at their fight and such but from the descriptions for a duel they aren't really involved.

That said, I'd say you need an absolutly clear shot, if either participant in the duel is even slightly in the way then good can't take it.

Also, it makes bows a serious waste of points if you cant.
