Ok. So, after a long hiatus from the hobby, I returned eager to use my khazad guard to demolish my opponents orc and uruk hordes  . To my dismay, however, I purchased the Free Peoples sourcebook only to discover that khazad guard now only carry two-handed axes. And same goes for normal dwarf warriors, the only melee option is the 2handed.

This would mean all dwarves now suffer a -1 on the duel roll. Or am I missing something??

Please tell me this ain't so!

All warriors unless specified carry hand weapons. You only have to look at the dwarf warrior models to see they are wielding single handed axes.

Yeah, that's what was confusing me. The warriors clearly carry hand weapons but I wasn't sure about the ruling.

Cheers

It does say in both the ORB and the new hobbit book. May even say it in the sourcebooks but cannot remember.

In my opinion I think that when you have a 2H weapon you can't quickly switch it for a 1H weapon.
What kind of use do the elvish weapons have?

I had hoped that GW fixed this with the new rules.

Elf blades are as before. Can be used either single or double but must be declared before dice are rolled.

Yeah, they could make Elf Blade and similar special rule weapons far more useful if there was some penalty to switching weapons. I have no problem with the concept that most 2H warriors also carry a 1H, but I think you should be at -1 Fight or something similar if switching. Then the Elf Blade and similar special weapons would be able to switch without penalty.

Two handed axes are the only optional wargear for Khazad Gaurd. As posted above, every warrior carries a one handed weapon, unless otherwise specified. In exchange for a higher points cost, gear like two handed weapons, spears and shields may be taken.

Think of it like this, you get the penalty/bonus when you swing your 2handed weapon really hard at your opponent (like your hands are really close together), but you don't have any bonus/penalty when you use it like a stave with a really sharp end (your hands are farther apart).

Also, Elf Blades have their own bonus now, so they aren't just 2handed weapons anymore.
