There was a realism with volley fire that line of sight rules lack.

Can you imagine the defenders behind the deepening wall being told not to fire at the tightly backed ranks of uruks because they can't see them and might miss?

If we all hit GW with a volley of emails do you think they might bring it back in the FAQ?

I see what you did there!

I personally hate that they took it out. It's like they purposefully nerfed bows so badly that the shoot phase takes longer and is less fruitful. What a load of Devlan Mud...

orc bows were bad enough to start with let alone any other bow type. I have no idea how they could take out Faramir and his knights in the RoTK movie, especially without volley fire! Those dice had to be loaded!

Don't be to hasty now. Let's assume that Faramir had like 200(?) knights. You would only need like 2700 Orc Archers to take them all out with one barrage, killing either the horse or the rider.

On a serious note. I do miss volly fire. It was so much fun and really added to the game. i don't really mind the moevement penalty, bows where pretty powerful in the old rules.

Yeah once my club found out volley fire was taken out they were in disagreement. So we are keeping it in as a house rule.
