Another front view
Image
The impaled rider. This is actually three different figures I pieced together and remodelled to get the pose right.

A view from the nest giving a different view of the charge.

I wanted to show more of a real battle which is individual fights, here's an archer picking out his target
Image
A closer look at some of the dead. These are mainly from the Mumak base that I cut up and dotted around

A look across the line

This is one of my favourites. The far rider is converted from an archer to have a sword and shield. The pose was perfect for an arrow to be be placed in the shield, which you can make out. And of course he has his personal battle with the pikeman

Oh if only i had waited with my comment :D The second frontview is the pefect image to capture this scene. It seems so incredibly realistic, and the blurred rider in the foreground even strengthens this impression!
(now you only need a suiting background! ;) )

I hope you like what I've done and I would be glad for any C&C. This is my first diorama so I went through some huge learning curves. I think I over did the flocking a little as the different layers of forna haven't come through. This is also my first sculpting so all in all I have learnt a lot from this.
Overall though, I wanted to take this down a different line, one I've never seen done before. With the impaled rider and the Rohan charge I think I've just about got the different edge I was looking for.
Thanks for looking.

Rognarr - I can only agree though my wife would be distraught at the comment about her kitchen !
I'm afraid I have no photoshop skill so I can do little more than you see.

:D It's great to see this finally finished. You did a good job too. (though I wouldn't waste a mumak on a diorama .) (you aren't a gamer though, iirc?)

Anyways, I like how you set up the guys. The rider-less horse is a great touch. You managed to catch a moment in a fluid and crazy battle. MY only downside would be the grass. It seems a little to bland and the same. Maybe if you had mixed in some dirt spots, or browner grass for some more diversity....Oh, and the dead guys are 'in' the grass, they should be 'on top' of it, though with static grass, I'm not sure how you would have accomplished that.

All that said, I do think you did a really good job, especially for your first try. I would be proud to display that. :)

I was wondering when this was going to be finished, and here it is! It looks amazing! All the painting is excellent, and I love the impaled rider, it's brilliant! :yay:

Avenger - no I'm not a gamer and I bought the Mumak purely to do a diorama with. I agree on the grass but like I say it was my first try. I will know for the future to put some more contrast in.
The dead was difficult to have on the grass without looking stupid as they are on a flat base. I think that's maybe a compromise I had to do.
However you've spotted something I never thought of so there's something else for the future, though I don't expect to work on another Mumak

Rognarr - at first I thought you had found one that made me think, he'll that's like mine, and then I realised it was !
Wow, what a bit of chopping can do. Thanks for the time you spent doing this

I've managed 7.1 on CMON, my best yet !!! Maybe if I'd have used Rognarr picture I would have scored better.

It's about time! Excellent diorama Gandalf, well done, and Rognarr you really make it look like it should be the cover of a customized journey book or something.

Thanks ElfLover.
I am in the process of writing a guide for the Tombs of Wisdom. It's proving to be a bit long so may take me a while to finish it.
