Hi New to this forum, like quite a few folk I suspect the hobbit movie revived my interest in the LotR SBG. Here are the first couple of figures I painted from EFGT box set.

Dwalin:

And a goblin. (Green, I know, I just don't like the GW official colour scheme)

Another picture.

Thanks for looking.

A great start to your blog, especially Dwalin who's skin tone and highlighting is very good indeed.

Oh and welcome! :D

Great work - from the quality you have obviously been painting for a while.
Welcome to the One Ring - get your feet under the table and have a pint of foaming beer. :-D

I agree about the goblin colours, for me this pale goblin thing in the hobbit doesn't seem to be right to me.

LOL I think the title is wrong how can you be a newbie this paint job looks more like a very experienced painter than a newbie.
The Dwalin is awesome

Thank you for the kind and generous comments.

Appologies if the title is misleading, I did not intend this, I meant newbie to this forum.

I mainly paint historical miniatures, which i got back into about 4-5 years ago, of a variety of kinds, my previous LotR stuff was limited to the Fellowship from FotR and some of the ones from the magazine cover.

But now I have the bug and have painted quite a lot of LotR mini in the last few months.

I didn't mean that your thread was misleading I meant it in the good way.
Everybody remembers the first miniature he ever painted and how it looked so when I saw the title I wasn't expecting much but when I scrolled down I was awe strucked.

Keep up the good work and of course we expect more pics from your minis.

Yes I don't think I'd dare post my first efforts! Found an old pre movers Gandalf I painted 20 years ago... Not good!

Some more stuff I have done in the last few weeks:

Gamling and converted Rohan standard bearer

Bofur

Dori, Ori, Nori

Black rider, converted using spare rider from Nazgul set and a Perry miniatures WotR horse.

First troll:

Great Eagle

Sorry if focus is a wee bit dodgy on some, iPhone camera!

Work will be considerably slower over next month but hope to tackle Nazgul and more of the Dwarves, plus 2 riders of Rohan I have half done.

Not even daring to look at the March pre-releases!

Thanks for looking.

Awesome painting on all of these models, and nice banner. Not too keen on the Goblin, but the rest are amazing :yay:

Amazing models. Their bases are marvelous. How did you paint the rocks? They look very realistic and I'd be interested to copy your scheme in my terrain pieces. I didn't even realize that the Rohirim banner bearer is a conversion wow. ast

Thanks very much for the comments. :) Very kind.

The base stones are just painted slates in Gray (codex, my last pot) or Vallejo English uniform for the brown. Then washed with army painter strong tone ink (not dip). Then dry brushed in stages mixing gradually more Vallejo beige in until just pure beige (I prefer the finish of this to white).

The paving stones on the Dwarf bases is off cuts of slaters plasticard.

@guitarheroandy great blog. Loved the pst about your son. My two lads (10 and 8) have gone bonkers for LotR/Hobbit. This been partly what has spured me back into LotR SBG. They love playing and have pained a few mins (pity the hobbit stuff is so expensive :-( ) I have played simplified version of the Two towers era rules, gradually adding more complexity.

Some fantastic painting in this thread! The troll is great, I love the skin colour. Much better than the clean looking GW version.

Your eagle ......I'm lost for words its so so good. Makes me want to crack open my box of eagles and have a go myself.
Love your bases on the dwarves. what do you use to get the cobbled stone effect i really like that and would like to give it a try.

Inspiring stuff - Keep going!
