Yes they are. They started as a bigger mold but I found you can cut them down very very easily.

So my next project is the Cave Drake.
The first issue, as you tend to find with all multi part figures, is fitting them together and filling the joins as you can see below.

My clumsiness has caused me another proble. I managed to break the tip of the nose off. This is going to test my green stuff skills as the nostril part is missing. The joins around the mouth are simply appalling so I envisage a lot of time getting this area to look right.

You can see below how bad this area is.

However I am looking forward to painting this figure. My version will be purple with a similar light brown/off white underbelly. The youngster I will paint a different colour as I see purple as the colour of a fully mature drake, however I'm not 100% sure on the youngsters colour. My initial thought is brown as this would help camouflage it ( as with most young in the wild ) this would be a mid brown but if anyone has any other ideas I would love to hear them.

Wow what a beast! Must say that I haven't seen many of these in any forum...and you got him in metal *envy*

I wish you lot of patience with all these gaps, that is a part of the hobby that I find to be extremely annoying (I'm trying to put together my metal treebeard since a few days...)

One tip, that can possibly help you is to use milliput for the smaller gaps in the head and neck area! you can roll it out into thin sausages, apply them in the desired area, then with a wet brush/clayshaper, you can very easily blend it in, because it is a lot softer than GS and dilutes with water. I find this very practical for areas that are difficult to reach witch a modelling tool.

Gunslinger. Thanks for the tip with the Milliput. I've never used it so I presume it dries hard ? I haven't got any so I may have to do without it on this occasion, but I will definitely be getting some for future projects.
I've had the drake for at least 2 years, maybe longer and has been sat with the rest of my backlog since then. I seemed to spend more time collecting !!!! Anyway I'm back at the hobby as much as I can spare and I intend to continue and improve.
As for the drake, I'm doing this for my wife and as her favourite colour is purple there was never going to be any other choice in colour. I'm just hoping I can give it a menacing appearance, not like its just had a severe powder puffing...

Hi,

yes it dries very hard, much harder than Greenstuff, it can be easily sanded afterwards! Also it is not very expensive, here in France one package of it (lasting a long tile if you just use it for filling gaps) costs 4.5€ (around 4£).

France - now you have my envy. I love it there and on my retirement in 7 years I'm selling up and moving there. The area we are not set on yet, though the favourites so far are Limousin or the Mayenne area.

Ok, here we go then. I've had a go at remodelling the nose. It's not too bad considering all I used was the sculpting tool though it will need a little nip and tuck once the green stuff has dried.
I also need to fashion a couple of teeth and then I may be in a position to start putting some paint on it. I noticed that the bridge of the nose was also too thin so I've applied some more green stuff to broaden it and make it look even

I've tried as best I can to get a close up to give you an idea of what I've done. The below will need some more tinkering once dry.

Does it pass the test ?

I think I've managed to resemble a front tooth by using some wire, some files and a lot of patience.

There should be a second tooth behind the one I've made but do you think I can get away with just the one ?

I think it looks fine as it is Gandlaf! If you want you can make another tooth ofc, but I guess it's quite a bit of work. After all he could have lost that tooth in a battle or when he bit onto a crunchy dwarf in his mithril vest

I've managed to get some colour on and I've deliberately shown extreme colours. These are the base coats of colour that I will be hopefully updating at a later point to show the progress I have made through the colour ranges. Needless to say there is a lot of work to do and many many coats until I will be satisfied.
To be honest I only have at best a vague idea on how this will look and I will have to judge the progress as I go through.

I've done some more detailed work on the eyes. I didn't want anything predictable and after researching numerous colours and styles came up with this

Any comments are as always welcome.

I've spent today working on the underbelly. I've gone for a dirty look as I would expect a cave living drake to be lacking in personal hygiene.
However I am unsure if I have done well or it is a complete mess that requires re-work. I would love your opinion please.
Ignore the jaw line as that is set for something else.

Some of the purple you see will be worked in to the upper armoured layer as I did not want two completely solid colours but to have areas where they merge into each other.
