OK on to horses now. I was doing some horse for the Riders of Rohan and I wanted to get more variety. I seem to remember using inks to get that sheen that some horses have with their coats. I think I used fairly diluted inks to get a translucence effect.

I found some good articles from various sites (now long gone) about how to paint horses.

Many years ago I found some horse articles on the Internet and saved them for future use.

Orcses torture devices, Preciouss? Or has Master Azog been stealing stuff from Flash Gordon again?

Somewhere is the fetid dark recesses of my memory I seem to recall the horse painting guide.

nice painting on the troll, gandalf and rohan... all nice looking!

Good idea to put those riders on those stuff. I usually tend to scrape off some paint by accident while painting.

On to my Mordor troll (Attack Troll) - some might have seen it already in my gallery - I was particularly pleased with the base.

I think I was inspired by the Mordor Trolls bursting through the doors of Minas Tirith. The wood was actual bits of wood and the masonry bits of dense polystryrene.

I spent a fair bit of time of the shaft of the hammer, the teeth and nails and the back to make it look like the back was cracking to reveal softer flesh underneath. This was based on the idea that Sauron had Mountain Trolls that could resist the might of the sun but the hide was still a bit susceptible to it so you would see some softer flesh peeking through.

I'm on a roll now and finally I can find some WIP pictures. These were a number of Mordor Orc plastic conversions with arm swaps and a few other bits and bobs like shields to add variety.

The black undercoated ones are the originals whilst the modified ones are pre-undercoat.

I will post up the finished versions soon.

I found these berserker's - I perhaps went a bit over the top with the blood - still why shouldn't they be bathed in blood ... lol

Orcs and grunge go together like strawberries and cream (but they don't taste as nice according to chef Gollum). It is funny how simple changes and conversions can add so much more variety to the orc horde (or as I prefer to think of it, a target rich environment). Very well grunged orcs!

Part of the weapon shape changes was as an attempt to reflect the weird shapes of the Orc weapons from the movies. None of them were traditional shapes but all jagged. Look at page 163 of "Lord of the Rings - Weapons and Warfare" to see what I mean.

I really hope that doesnt sound vain or something, but did you see my conversions or thought of that yourself? Just wondering because I had started a similar conversion project a while ago ( viewtopic.php?f=50&t=24858&start=60 ) Might be a funny coincidence though

And either way, you've done a good job!
