Celevue has inspired me to look back at some of my pasted projects and reevaluate a fixed board instead of mats.

Image

I should have taken time to take better photos purring a min campaign at Tree Fort

Image

I should have taken notes. Gleen's Hobbits savaged the poor Ruffians
I have replaced the CD bases with MDFB sense I made the photo.

I made this photo of my version of Durin's Stair several years ago. I decided to up grade it to Hirst Arts blocks. I did not like the way I made the stairs. The figures fit fine but it never looked right.
I used this plan-
http://www.lotrscenerybuilder.org/causeway_saber.php
I am going to add more detail this time. My camera is broken I will post some new photos soon.

I can see your point Charlie, Durins stair doesn't look right and my guess is the wide steps are the issue.
However there's no denying the excellent stone work, that is very well made and painted.

I guess sometimes you have to sacrifice looks for gaming practicalities.

I find it quite nice stairs tough. :)
I bet ur aiming at the other stairs principle u saw in the wip section from.. (forgotten who it was...)
None the less it are great stairs u made. Not much danger of mini's slipping down the stairs.

Several contributors have made good suggestions over the years. I am converting to magnetic bases. I am going to make a place holder?. I am not sure what else to call it. I will make a photo when the camera is replaced.

Not as often with SBG as with many other systems.

You are right! I just did not like it.
Thanks every one for the nice comments 8)

It is very frustrating the camera is not working. I glued up most of the first four stairs. I am afraid I will have to wait to tomorrow to do any more. Gravity is working against me and part of the stair moved out of square. Luckily it shifted where the first break in the stair is located. So it will work out better than if I had planed it.
I also ran into a problem with using a wood core. I may not be able to make the stair rotate from the point where it collapses in the movie.Well at least the way I planed for it
I have to drive to the DIY store. I am out of 1/2 MDF.
I can not decide if I am going to follow the original plan or make it more like Celevue's model.
Suggestions are very welcome!

I have to wait for more glue to dry. Durin's stair rebuild so far.
Let me know what you think!

Oh my - those stairs are fabulous looking! Bravo! When you get a little further along, could you put a mini or two on them for scale? Thanks.

I put it with the Deeping wall too. I am going to glue up the tower and stair that leads to the keep. I have the blocks precast.

I have to add the brick work to the MDFB on the 4th stair. That will only take a little while but it will have to dry over night before I can sand it.
The next stair and wall is going to take a bit of thought. The brick work will be a façade. I will have to work out the base and decide how I am going to attach the hall and Balin's Tomb before I glue it up.
You can see the BK mold and the silicon molds I made in the photo. I will have to make a mold for the column base because I will need a lot of them.

Image

If any one has a photo of how they detailed Balin's tomb please post them here they will be very helpful.
suggestions and comments are welcome.

i agree. You're making me jealous... and a little subconscious of my gaming board. i could never throw that much detail into my terrain. great job.

Side tracked by last moment request to run a game at a convention Next Friday

Image

I had to speed base 60 Pirates for the ships I am going to bring so I mixed up some tan glue and used Creatogly colored sand because it was such a rush job. The bases are one inch round wood with magnetized bottoms. I used the tan glue to attach the tan colored sand. I will dry brush and add some static grass later. So what does this have to do with the LOTR. I used the last bit of the glue I mixed on a half dome of florist foam as an experiment. Florist foam is usually not very useful for terrain making. However, the glue and sand created a hard shell. I think the shell will allow me to use it from time to time.

Image

I will add thatch and details later. I am going to put a new base on Dennis's fort and make a new island. I will have to do that at TreeFort

Image

I stopped by GW in Sandy Springs and Photo'd and measured Ranger of The North's Goblin Town project so that my Great Goblin Throne platform will blend with the club set.
I am not sure there will be much of a update this week. I have a lot of non Middle Earth work to do.

I wish more of you guys lived around here too
I will be at Cool Mini or not mini con Friday-Sat.

Thanks . This going to be a group effort. I am going to bring stuff but I will be game master rather than terrain maker.
