Outstanding work Gandalf, very original, is that a 40mm base?
Would love to see a close up of Legolas, he was looking really good on the last wip pic.
Amazing what you can find when you are gardening!

Really nice Legolas you have there!
I love the mellow green of his tunic

The base reminds me of a place we went to in the south of France...

superb stuff :yay:

Thank you all for your kind words, they are appreciated.

Yes it is. I used this for stability and the fact I could add a little more to the base.

Humbling - thank you.

I'd need at least a 54mm figure to achieve even half as good a face as you have done. Good job!

I have to use a magnifying lens these days otherwise I would need a bigger scale. I never realised how much detail some of these figures had until I used one.

A couple of close ups as requested. Unfortunately this is too big for my light box and m thinking I may need to build one. However I only have the iPad to photo with, so I think this will have to do for now.

The tunic is simply Catachan Green with Bleached Bone added for the highlights.

Nice work :-)

For a light box it's worth thinking about using a daylight bulb if you aren't already as it behaves like natural light and hence doesn't boost certain colours at the expense of others due to the restricted frequencies.

Thanks Azog. We have decided to get a MacBook in the next couple of weeks which will mean I can use my camera again and hopefully get some better pictures. In the meantime I will just use what I've got.
My next offering is Tom Bombadil. Nothing special planned for this one as its a stop gap for my next big project, Bag End. I've ordered the base for it and while it gets delivered I'm filling time.

My thoughts on Bag End will be one of those that I change as I go through but to start with I'm aiming for something like the Weta Workshop version.
Image
One of the things that's important for me for some reason is to curve the path around the front and not have it straight like some do.
The main support work will be made up of styrene sat on top of a 300 x 200mm wooden plinth. Foam board will create the height for the hobbit hole. The trick will be creating the brickwork around the door and windows.
I also plan to make a handmade oak tree to sit on top of Bag End.
Needless to say I will need a ton of grass and some long stuff at that as full vegetation is a must.
One thing I can't find as yet is a way to make some flowers and flowering bushes ? These are also a must as we all know Hobbits have a love for all things that grow, some some subtle bloomage needed.
So if anyone has any knowledge of we're I can either buy or make some I would be very very thankful.

I've had a sneak peak and they look great. A few of these will prove a welcome addition.
Have you had chance to experiment with the rocks yet ?
Once I've finished Tom I will start playing with fieldstone walls. The Weta model looks far too clean for me ( the wall at the bottom right of the display that holds up the road )
I want to incorporate a lot of moss and grass in between the stones.
I will also have a play around with hedges and fences so I can perfect my technique before going to the model.
Gandalf will be on the road in his cart and Bilbo on the doorstep is one idea. The other is the young Bilbo leaping over the front gate.
All I all this could be a lengthy project but should be fulfilling.

Still at the stage of sticking on cork bark, which I seem to be getting through shed loads.
Will post some wip pics tomorrow
The Gandalf in cart and Bilbo jumping both sound good ideas.
These things are all a learning process aren't they

If you interested Gandlaf, I think I have a tutorial for Bags End that GW once had on their website. You would have to wait a bit though, because I will be on travel the next week...
I remember for example, that they used painted pins for small flowers or pot flowers, which looked great and is cheap at the same time!
