I keep finding myself back on this thread, just so I can stare at that army!

So good.

How many points is that army in WotR?

According to my calculation, taking into account that two battlehosts are involved, 1250 points so far.

Very nice variety. I always paint lots of them in the same colour scheme and my cavalry forces look quite boring as everyone rides identical horses. I like especially the grey one with white dapples. It will be interesting to see what you will make of the riders. Keep up the good work!

Plan on doing about 24 horses at the end of next mont, I will certainly have a look at yours again. They look great! I like how you've got different tones each time, but still manage to create a whole. Which guide did you use? I've come across a number of great guides already but maybe you've worked with another one (WHO'S YOUR SOURCE, TELL ME :D )

Thanks. I used the GW horses guide, which was online (if you don't have it, just say it), further I did some research on horse colours via google pics and wikipedia (means I did not just copy the GW guide). However the pics don't do them justice, e.g. the colours are different in reality then it shows on the pics. When everything is finished, I do better pics.

Next time I paint horses I will try wet blending, which should be an ideal technique for them. As I'm still quite newb I just discovered how to do it when painting (big) Schleich animal toy figures for my nephew.

I will continue with 6 more riders (rework of riders done when I started) and 2 captains/2 banners on horse.

Speaking of application, close up example, keep in mind this WotR, I can't invest a lot of time for each rider:

More time will be invested in the heroes to come :) Still of course the 14 riders took a lot of time overall, it is not a walk in the park.

Good idea. It got kinda boring to paint riders, riders, riders so I decided to paint a hero - that way I can see where I currently stand painting wise and can test my new photo set up.

I went with Theoden - just did the head/face - comments and criticism highly welcome, I want to improve as much as possible.
And further, what you think of the new photo set up (thanks again to MMS, his posting gave me the idea to build a light box, wasn't aware that such think exists before)?

There are no excuses with this miniature, cause I tried my best and will continue to do so. It is a refreshing break from mass painting.
