Superbly painted and based, and the photos are perfect - well lit, in focus and lots of detail very clearly shown. The background is the perfect setting - interesting but unobtrusive and you have enough room there to show a small unit without crowding them in awkwardly.

@Gandlaf the Grey: I used different shades of basic static grass, which I mixed togehter (one was bright green like the standard GW one, whereas the other one was a darker brown one which I got from army painter I think) All the grass tufts are from the german brand "mininatur" (really excellent and very realistic products)...in this case I used grass tufts early and late fall! Last step wa to add some clump foliage which is also from army painter.

@Rognarr: That would be a pity! It's a great mini to paint, most of it is really easy (except the gauntlets) as it's very nicely sculpted! Plus, you're a good painter! Also it is a very characterfull mini which makes it a great addition to any Rohan force. If you have questions or problems during the painting-don't hesitate to ask!

Awesome work! I love the face and eyes in particular. Very realistic. Also an accurate hair colour. Top Job! I notice that isn't a GW base though. Any reason for that?

Hi,

the flat bases, which are very commonly used in historic tabletop wargames are quite popular on the german tabletop-hdr forum, especially because of people like HVM and Finarfin from our blog jomada (http://jomada-adventures.blogspot.de/) who introduced this into LOTR SBG. HvM convinced me to use this type of base too, I think now that it looks very cool because it blends more easily into the terrain/gaming board. You can use the washers you find in the DIY stores, but I'm using renedra plastic bases.

@Gene Parmesan: I can't to this at the moment because I'm not at home. It isn't a board though but artists canvas coated with a mix of paint, heavy acrylic medium and sand. I sprinkled the grass and pushed the grass tufts in the wet acrylic medium which hold it greatly. After drying the textile was cut from the wooden canvas which permitted me to obtain a flexible grass mat.

Your Dunlendings really highlight how bad the GW paint job is. Absolutely fantastic and I've decided to get some of my own.

Could you give me some of your recipes for brown (especially the straps on Hama) as I'm stuck in a rut with that colour.

Hi hannanibal,

glad you like them! The sculpts are absolutely marvelous, but as you said the GW paintjob could be better! I'm curious what you make of them!

For the red leather parts I use: basecoat of dark flesh or for Hama, Rhinox Hide. I highlight by adding more and more Red Leather from Vallejo Model Color. When I reach pure Red Leather I add in a tiny bit of Iraqi Sand (Vallejo Model Color) for the the brightest highlights on the edges.

Red leather eh? Well I never.
And Iraqi sand for the highlights is a good idea. I use Bleached Bone usually but it's a bit too sharp and strong.
I'll definitely be buying those colours and giving them a go.

Awesome! The conversion looks great and the painting is superb! The base is also a joy for the eye (the thin base is also a nice touch, I prefer that too). :yay:

I like the chain mail a lot better than the normal Goblins' armour. I think I'll steal the idea!
