A brief update to show the chimneys I've made. I will look to get them painted and put in place during the next few days.

They are roughly 1.5cm square and I will decide on how much height they will have when I put them in place, so they will be trimmed down a touch.

I think this next photo shows how things are developing.
Image
All the main construction is now done, including the pond in the front left corner. I've base coated all the grassed areas and finished the painting of the path, steps and wall.
So the next part will be the exciting one, beginning to flock the whole thing.
There is still the hedge to go in and of course the fence but I'm happy I can do these a little later.
I hope you like it so far. I must admit to being pleased with it but I still think I'm just over 50% of the way to finish.

Thanks Charlie.
Maybe in my eagerness I should have waited a bit as I went on to get this done.
Image
The grass will need a little tidying up later on but it has given it the overgrown look that I wanted. I did not want a short cut grass all over.
There will be a formal lawn in front of the parlour window. This will give a benefit in height variation and hopefully a more realistic feel.

Very nice work! Will you put the long grass everywhere? And how about flowers?

Looks good. I have found that flock looks better the more steps you take. I can not wait to see the vines and creepers. There are lots of flowers and shrubs to look forward to as well.

Are you saying the grass doesn't look that good i.e. not enough layers ?
I painted the base then applied a layer of fine turf mixes. On top of this went the long grass which is so long you cant use any sort of applicator, you have to apply by hand. I sprayed over this to seal it in place. So is there something else I should have done ?
At this minute I'm not planning on any vines or creepers. There is a chance that could change but the chances are slim.
I am planning on plenty of flowers and so far I have three trees to scratch build. There is of course the kitchen garden thats going to take some planning. I want this to look like a fully functioning allotment with the beds of different veg etc. there will be grass verges /walkways in between the seperate veg areas.

Certainly not
The tall; grass looks good. I was thinking ahead to fences , shrubs and flowers. A few creepers and vines will make nice additions. So will some weeds.

I certainly did not mean you have not done something right.

More food for thought, thanks Charlie. I have a few flowers that I've bought and there are those I plan to make to create the realistic feel I'm after.
Looking again at the grass, I'm thinking a slight trim here and there will help.

Finish by Christmas ? Believe it or not but that will be a challenge to finish it in that time. When you can only spend a handful of hours a week, then progress is unfortunately going to be slow. You never know though.

Nice work mate. What are you using for the long grass?

Thanks Han, I found some 12mm grass by Noch. I think the main areas work well but it will need a little trimming where it meets a path or window.

Oh yeah, it really works. Looks like the long grass in the pictures of the actual Bag End.

What do you think about combing it? It might be an idea before you trim as the grass in the images, although shaggy and messy, seems to have a downward flow.
Just a thought.
really impressive stuff mate. We'll have to get together when it's done and play a game or two on it. :D

Combing may be an option but I will leave that until it is fully covered and see what I think. It can't be used like static grass as it's way too long and you have to apply it by hand.
As for playing a game, I'm afrId I don't play. My interest is purely the hobby side, but a very generous offer and who knows in the future.

Heres some more progress after having a few hours to spare today. I've also got a new camera, though I am yet to set up a proper photo booth.
This is the overview so far. The kitchen garden has been set out a little more with grass pathways to intersect the planting areas. The main lawn infront of the parlour window has not been done as yet.
Image
A close up of the parlour window with the first flowers in place. Ive also used a scant covering of a mixed scatter on the long grass. You can make out some little yellow flowers which help to break up the uniformity.
Image
The view of the front door. A few little patches of colour on the bank so far. I think I may add a small tree but I will decide once the fence and gate are in place.
Image
The far left side of Bag End. I've put a blackberry bush against the far side and layed a lawn area with a few clumps to again break up the look. Some of these clumps will receive further attention. Looking at the photo, I'm not sure of the transition from long grass to short. I think I may need to get some mid sized grass to help this area.
Image
The kitchen window, complete with drainage.
Image

Please feel free to give me any feedback and anything I may have missed, could do better or include, thanks.
