I don't know what every one else thinks, but the last year or so has seen huge price increases for anything other than basic plastics (and some bgime) on ebay.

I suppose it goes hand in hand with general gw price increases.

Does this mean lotr metals are now a valuable commodity ? At this rate they will be better than investing in shares

I do believe people have the right to market at whatever price they wish, as all buyers have their own levels of buying power. However I see this as yet another door closed for younger players trying to enter the hobby

As a small aside I was at SELWG this weekend and I didn't find a single lotr mini to buy (just some poorly painted MT plastics)!!

Most of the time you can find what you are looking for on ebay for 1/2 to 3/4 the Australian retail price.

Yeah you're right ^ I doubt they'll find a buyer.

Some models (especially metal ones now only available in resin or no longer in production at all) can certainly be sold for prices far beyond their original retal prices, but several sellers have noticed that, and now demand hugely inflated prices for models that aren't actually that special.
As a seller, you can sometimes get lucky and get a tidy profit on some old models, but as a buyer there is a trend that you will need some luck to find certain models at reasonable prices as well.

I purchased Haldir for less that two Aussie dollars. I bought 3 knights of dol amroth on foot for a total of 3 aussie dollars. I purchased a box of hunter orcs on fell wargs for $19.50 AUD including shipping. Australian GW sells them for $70. There are plenty of bargains on ebay.

As someone who works in auctioneering and selling, I can say with confidence that an advertised selling price does not necessarily bear any resemblance to the actual price the item will actually achieve in the end. It may be that this item is used try and bump up the sale price of other similar items.

Idk if others will be able to follow this link (because it's from my phone) but it's just another example (the most extreme I've seen) of ppl trying to gouge metal prices. This person has been re-listing for months

I'm an avid buyer and seller on e-bay and I've noticed a huge swing in prices over the past year. in the last few months i've seen prices on auctions drop about 50% since January, some example would be "metal ringwraith on fell beast" "cave drake" and metal dragon were selling around $100 now the auctions are ending around $50

some "buy it now" listing are really high but as said above, no one will buy the models at those prices
you can find some pretty good deals on ebay if you keep your eye out

I picked up a rare Lurtz, Amon Hen Lurtz, 'Normal' Lurtz and Ugluk for about £13 a couple of weeks ago. Patience and luck!

I agree, you still can find decent bargains on ebay. I do on occasion, and of course the auctions will find their own high point.

However, there is definitely a handful of regular dealers chancing their arms .

I must admit I can't see GW's business logic (obviously I don't have access to their business model and costs) in pulling certain figures which they could probably still sell in quite decent quantities (defenders of the west anyone?).

This of course pushes up the secondary market costs handing money to e.g. ebay instead of funding further figure investment for GW!

I use to go on ebay to get bargains. I once picked up a heap of Riders of Rohan, Warriors of Rohan, high elves, uruk hai, saurman, theoden, gamling, eowyn, gandalf, legolas, gimli, lurtz, uruk hai captain, aragorn, boromir and i think some hobbits for $20 Australian.

My old rule was if price plus postage was over 50% RRP I wouldn't but it, and i use to buy a lot with that rule. Now i'm happy with 75% RRP

You can still get some good deals these days, but the great deals are harder to get.

Plastics and the 'normal' metals are still going for very reasonable prices. By normal metals I mean anything that wasn't a specific scene piece, or a limited edition run.

Typically, I've found that;

Around 20 plastics go for around £12-£15.
Metal characters for £4-£7.
