Defender's Of Rohan

So i just bought the Defender's Of Rohan box set for around £125 off ebay , partly due to the fact i want all the legolas models for my elf armies. Now i checked the price when it came out in 2006 at £31.00 with inflation and the rarity of it( individual models of the set go for around £25-£30 , did i pay a good price?

Also the fun to put it on the table when the opponent expects a battle pose usually on your models

If you were prepared to pay that for it then that is a good price I say. GW are having a huge cull of the lotr range to focus on the Hobbit, so oop stuff is making a pretty penny on ebay lately

Its a good set if you can get it, one of their best in my opinion, but I'm.afraid to say you definitely paid top end for it.

I myself have Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. Still keeping my eyes open for a Theoden. When I finally have the confidence to paint them they'll be going on display on top of the walls of Helms Deep.

I paid £25 for a set last year which was the RRP. I have the flier which GW released with all the new releases. The average price bidding is between £70-90 regardless of condition.

Was that before or after the The Hobbit SBG was announced , because since the Hobbit releases came out i dont think there has been any new LOTR releases , i guess you got a VERY good bargain and i paid above average.

It was before the hobbit. I managed to find a seller on facebook who had loads of old stock and wanted RRP for it. That was after I narrowly missed out on a set (bidding) at £90. So yeah, good bargain.
The rule of thumb with anything on ebay etc is to wait. Something dirt cheap will always surface if you have patience.

They are nice models, and I would Particularly like the Gamling with standard but, £125 is I have to say a bit steep and could not possibly be seen as a bargain! However, if you have the cash and can paint well the miniatures have found a great home.

I think I found one for $50-$60 about a year ago.

I'm sorry, but that is far too high.
For reference, £125 is about $203 for 7 figures weighing about 1 ounce each.
That is $29 per figure/ounce
Silver is $23 per ounce.
That means even if the figures were cast out of silver, you paid too much. O.o

Just my opinion though.

Its not a case of what they're made of. Its the rarity of the figures themselves that drives the price up. I know of people who will pay several hundred pounds just for one figure if it is rare and hard to come by. Its the collectible factor.

Definitely the collectible factor. The models are valued at what they are worth to the buyer. I don't even want to go into the prices I have paid for some of the more difficult to find parts of the collection and the hunt goes ever on for more.

If you had the cash available and you really wanted this set then you got a good deal.

No problem Bilbo - It is difficult to gauge ones intention when only reading text on a screen. I didn't think it was meant maliciously but it could have been misconstrued easily.

I saw one go for around £100 a few months back, so I would say a little pricey. You can still pick up the Gamling miniature in that set from GW. I'm personally not a fan of the Hama figure but the others are some of the best (Theoden and Aragorn especially).

Looking at it another way though, if you had to bid £125 to win the auction (assuming it wasn't buy now) then at least one other person was prepared to pay a comparable price. Plus they don't become available too often, so if you really wanted it and now then its justified.

This is very true....and something I learned the hard way. Thats $108 dollars I'll never get back...

It's worth what you want to pay for it, don't blame you for buying it.

I always think about the hours of enjoyment you get from a figure, painting, playing. Look at what some people pay for drinks in pub and club, or a packet of cigarettes. It's my justification anyway!

Also buying figures is so constructive, you have something to show for you time and money.

I was lucky with my set, I got it £15 in a model shop sale! A few years ago.
