With the Rangers all having bows, do you guys think that the new elves will still have the standard 1/3 p, where you have to have palace guard, or do you think that there will be a 100% or reduced bow limit?

This is currently making me hesitate about what to ask for for Christmas.

Thanks,

That's a question we'll be able to answer this Saturday as the new book is coming out then.
What my guesses are (don't shoot me if I'm wrong) is that it'll be either be 1/2 bows in the entire "Mirkwood" force or that rangers don't count towards bow limit in their force (with or without a ranger captain to lead them maybe).

No idea.

I do know that GW have gone out of their way to ensure that no one plastic kit is 'illegal' out of the box. The Easterlings, Haradrim, Rivendell Knights, Riders of Rohan... they've all received either rules or erratas to ensure that they're playable with just a hero to lead them. I don't think there's an exception, but I'd be happy to be corrected.

So that says to me that either the bow limit isn't in effect for Mirkwood, or that Rangers don't count towards it, much the same as Riders of Rohan or Rivendell Knights.

What rule do the Easterlings have?

I thought their box of 10 warriors was an illegal warband.

Easterling Warriors have a 50% bow limit - since the latest FAQ.
As the others, however, this was only from that moment onwards, and preceding that were many years were the boxes were not in fact practical.

As for exceptions: Rangers of Arnor/Gondor. Only in a Grey Company force, can all have bows, but not in a normal Arnor force, or indeed any Gondor army.
Mordor Orcs were always the other way around, with too few bows...

As Coenus says the only other box of infantry that all have bows is the Rangers of Middle Earth. In a Gondor army they don't get any special compensation, however they can be used in an all bow Arnor army if you also take the Rangers of the North mini-heros. Since this is in addition to your required hero to lead a warband this costs a lot of points, which keeps all bow Arnor armies pretty small.
I'd be surprised if an Elf army could simply take all rangers.
Maybe a conditional rule? If Rangers are the only models in the army, you can take 100% bows? Would make a pretty boring list, but as soon as you take palace guard/wood elves with spears then you go back to 50% or 33% bows.
Just speculation at this point.

Wow, I had not noticed this! I still only use them for their phalanx, and have not painted any of my archers yet.

The Knights of Rivendell box set is another box set with all the miniatures bow armed.

I believe they have since been errata'd to say they have no bow limit, like the Riders of Rohan.

Indeed they have. I have half of them assembled and really need to get a move on and paint them. They are really fantastic models and should be absolutely devastating on the table top, particularly to Goblin Town goblins who they will be facing when I plan to use them in a Hobbit miniatures only mega battle. Killing Goblins even with a bow on a 4+ has some real potential!
