Finished my first model that wasn't batch painted or rushed. What do you think? He's also my first painted WoMT!

Constructive criticism appreciated! First time using highlights.

That's a real nice looking model. Great work on the base! I like seeing alternative colour schemes, and the dark green works well.

The armour looks great, nice highlighting. I think the banner could use more highlighting around the tree emblem.

From the title of the thread I thought this was your trade feedback thread so your work almost escaped me. You can tell a lot of effort has gone into this model and its paid off. Looks great VG and the base is awesome!

If this is your first miniature then very well done, nice choice of colour with the green and the base sets the miniature off nicely.

Thanks everyone, I did put a good two or three hours into him which is more than i've ever put into a model.

I meant that usually I paint models in batches of 12, or have no love for the models and am just rushing them. With this guy I took my time and tried my best!

Could definitely do with some help on skin though...how the hell can I paint a helmeted head, let alone his eyes?!

I usually paint the skin of my miniatures first. That way it is finished, and then you can paint the helmet and just be careful not to get anything on the skin. I find it impossible to do the other way around!

It still doesn't help you reach inside the helmet to get to those cursed eyes!! I didn't even manage to black out the eyes, never mind do pupils. His eyes are just a fleshy mess!

What about just using wash to create a basic eye feature and not worry about the rest if you are uncertain of your ability to carry it off? The other think is, do you have any of the really fine brushes that are required for miniscule details like eyes?

To be honest, I really hate most painted eyes on human sized minis. When you see a human being from the distance required to make them approximately 1 inch tall, the most you can make out of their eyes is a shadowed area, really. If you were painting a display piece that's meant to be gazed at in wonder from close up, then sure, but for most practical purposes painted eyes are totally un-needed. In fact, they look wrong -0 all paranoid and starey, unless done by an absolute master of their craft.

As Dorthonion says - just use a wash to shadow the area.

Great work, personally I always try to do the eyes, but on these figures the helmet makes it very difficult. Like the green, works well

Eyes done wrong can wreck most good paint jobs. I dont even bother most of the time, unless the character really needs it, Gollum and some orcs etc.. Use a wash on the face then pick out the highlights. This is a good mini to improve upon, you've clearly got the basics down. Solid colour and steady hand. Now move on to washes and highlights

Only painted two models recently. The first was a troll chieftain, testing out my planned Mordor scheme (and the Nikilakh Oxide technical paint) and the other was an Elyrian Reaver from the IoB fantasy kit to test a colour scheme and have a go at proper highlighting.

For both of these I got a bit tired and rushed them, so you'll notice a lot of mistakes, things that could have done with another coat, etc. I should really just put them aside and finish them another day, but hey...

I'm finding it quite annoying working on one figure for a long period of time. Next up is either repainting my Grimhammers or painting my dwarf rangers.

Thanks for looking, tell me what you think of the cloth on the reaver!

Have started a prototype for my Goblin Town/Moria project, in which I hope to amalgamate the factions with GT's models and aesthetic but Moria statlines. For example, a Gundabad Blackshield with shield and spear:

I need to add a helmet but this is my first venture into plasticard and i'm struggling! Any advice?

I made some big purchases and dents into my 'wants' list, including the following:

I also have a big Harad order coming in, including a certain big beastie.
