I recently painted my first ever miniature and I am looking for some criticism and tips on how to improve my model. An area where I know I need some advice is on the highlighting of the fabrics. Any and all help is appreciated!

I would say for the faric, use more steps between base and highlight.
I paint a middle layer, wash in low lights, bring out the middle layer again and add highlights.

With silver metals, I paint a dark gunmetal and then wash with black wash (nuln oil) before bringing it back to silve with a light silver colour such as mithril.

First off, I like the color-scheme of your model, and for your first mini I'd say thats quite impressive.

I'd say his belt would look good in a mid to dark brown, it would complete the whole woodland feel I think.

Some advice for your Green highlight. If you are working with two very contrasting greens I'd recommend layers of the two mixed, beginning with more of the dark green and each progressive layer being more light green and covering less area. And if it looks too strong to you at the end then you can always bring it back down a little with a light glazing of the area

Thanks a lot for the advice, I'll do exactly what you said! Is there any way I could take the paint off this model and start again? I'm looking for a fairly cheap method

Well I havent yet used it but I've heard simple green cleaning solution works well for removing paint off a plastic model. Ive never stripped a plastic model so I cannot speak to its effectiveness personally.

That's amazing for a first model. When I'm highlighting i take a light and hold the model directly underneath to see where the light falls. Thus, i would add highlights to the hood of the model

Seeing this, I'm reminded of my own first painting attempts.... Which I would rather forget.
I actually really like the fabric, but the colour change is a bit sudden. IMHO the flesh on the hands is a bit flat, try a very light wash to show the finger gaps.

Okay, that sounds good. Is the placing of the highlights okay, assuming I fixed them? And also, sorry for a newbie question but could you quickly walk me through how to do the light wash?

The highlights are starting in the right places at the bottom, but you can carry them up higher right to the tops of the robes. Basically, follow the folds more closely, and put a broader layer between your base coat and your highlight.

I have considered trying something new with my High Elves. I was thinking about painting the belt, gloves, hands and wrist armour white because I think it would like very good with the green. If not white, maybe a light grey.

No longer what I am doing as I decided white would be too invasive on my model.

I think white would be too harsh but a soft grey would look better.

Since initially writing the article I have seen somewhere I wish also to be improved. On the miniature there is a lot of the chainmail (new colour is ironbreaker) and was wondering how I could improve this. Obviously I want to keep the miniature in this sort of colour, but I was wondering how I could add something extra, such as differentiating between the different parts of the armour and weathering etc. Also any ideas for improvement are welcomed.
