Jesus christ his Shield is tiny it does actually look like he's nicked Merrys!

I'm going to give him a spar star design Rider of Rohan shield then and paint a more intricate gold design on it then so it looks more befitting of a royal.

Jesus has a tiny shield?

I believe that type of shield is called a buckler.

IIRC bucklers are even smaller, just big enough to cover a bit more than a fist actually... But anyway, buckler or not.. that shield is just way too small for Eomer ^^

It's not small enough to be a buckler but not enough to be an actual shield, it looks like a Hobbit shield.

Look what I got through the post today:
Image

Man this is a kit. So many spare sparts and I have no idea how I'd put this together, any guides on it people can offer?

Also it seems a shame to let all these spare parts go to waste...any idea if there's guides on sculpting/moulding a new troll so I can use all of the parts and potentially get more than one troll out of this? Or just tips or anything.

Using blu-tac to try and get this dude in some kind of dynamic position.

It's a very static model on it's own but I think you could probably with some pins and green stuff getting look quite dynamic/well posed.

It turns out that more than one of the Rohirrim had to smaller shields - this is a better version of that image from framecaplib, where you can see Eomer more clearly but check out the Rohan warrior on the right flanked by the Minas Tirith infantry - he also has a small shield.
http://www.framecaplib.com/lotrlib/html ... tk2168.htm
In practical terms a small shield is still a protection and a weapon, though less effective as an archery screen than the bigger variety, but that is no reason for them not to be perfectly useable in practice.

That troll does look dramatic. I have this set in my backlog so I'm interested to see what you do with it.

I primarily want to make a Mordor Troll for combat so I think this pose is good for that, although I want to keep experimenting.

You can also make some decent poses with the drummer:
Image

If I can get extra bodies I'll make the two other ones. The Isengard troll does look particarly brutal and I've got a large amount of Uruks but I want the Mordor one in my "Pelennor fields" force so think I'll go for that.
Image

So glad I'm older and more patient now, in the past I would have just attacked the thing with glue instead of trying out poses and go something I wouldn't have liked as much.

I like the third pose, it's unique to the majority of others I have seen.

Third pose reminded me of one of the old Uruk Hai warriors I have so I'll stick that one together if I can get my hands on some spare troll bodies.

What's the lore behind the Isengard troll?

Got these 3 sets in the post today for £25 for all 3.

Not bad because I got 24 models on it. I have some metal Galadhrim and Haldir already and a ton of Uruk Hai and Minas Tirith.

I hate the idea of the models being double the price they were but the single sprue boxes make some sense for people who only need boosters and don't need a million models every time.

The Galadhrim kit intrigues me. The fact you have to glue the heads on is strange.

New models that have arrived. A Ringwraith on horse, Legolas and Gimli, Glorfindel and Gamling.

Gamling looks like he's going to be a challenge. Any guidance or tips on painting that free-hand banner?

It may seem a simple thing but when your doing the freehand make sure you have nothing planned, no heavy lifting, feel your karma and relax. If you are on edge, don't do it.
