These all look awesome, great work!
I've always wanted to do this but never got around to it, this may be the inspiration I needed.

On a change of pace, I decided to spend my Sunday doing a little sculpting work.

I found myself with a spare Legolas from the original Fellowship set. I've never really been a fan of this model. For a start, the proportions are completely different to the later version of Legolas that were released, and the fact that he's standing in a very stock and unassuming position doesn't help. I looked at this model and considered the difference it might make for the model to have a cloak.

As above with the trolls, I'm still rather new to sculpting. Also, sculpting a cloth cloak (as compared to the fur version of the trolls) was a little more difficult.

I think it has worked rather well, adding a different dimension to the first model of Legolas to be released. It will be nice to field with the Mirkwood rangers, saving my other Legolas (from the Heroes of the West boxed set) from wear and tear on the battlefield as well.

Great Legolas, one of my favourite sculpts.

The cloak is a really nice addition, adding lots of character.. well done!
(might steal that idea some day ;) )

Madfrog- yes it does help to add character to an otherwise very static model.

I think the early lotr figures suffered from "conservative" sculpts- you only have to look at the first Legolas model and compare it to the very latest one (his pose atop the tree trunk) to see what I mean. I would be interested in seeing the unreleased versions and rejected sculpts to see the differences.

Before I depart from Troll-dom, my final conversion.

This poor chappie is actually the oldest troll I own - the first I bought nearly ten years ago. Unfortunately while killing the white council, or mullering some Rohan, his spear broke off. :(

Looking at the spear on my tabletop, I decided against fixing it, instead making the most of some spare greenstuff. I twirled it from the end, and the end result, when painted, will hopefully resemble fire.

To the oldest of Illuvatar's Children;

From Elves, I move to the peoples of Aule

The undead look on nervously as my Fallen Dwarves (designed by Miniatures of the North (MOTN) here on The One Ring) have been delivered!

Image

I was really happy with the service from Anvil Industry as my delivery arrived really quickly and it was well packaged.

Image

In terms of quality, these miniatures are great. As far as I can tell, there are zero mold lines, and only the smallest amount of flash is present.

Here they are based up;

I'm finishing off the undercoat today, and may have a few painted by next week! :)

A good save on the troll.
Those are the same dwarves CG painted up - they look great for evil dwarves. I am wondering if they will ever release something on the 'good' side.

Good to see more of these chaps and I'm looking forward to seeing how you paint them up.

Very nice, these Dwarfs are a must. Look forward to playing against them soon mate. Are you going to use them on Battle Companies?

Yep, these chaps will be appearing in my battle company of Durin's folk. I think they size up nicely compared to GW's dwarves - in fact they're a little better proportioned in come places.

Looking at the Grim Hammer in the second picture for example, he must really have very thin arms to fit into his armour (do you even lift bro?) - in comparison the Fallen Dwarves are stocky and their armour looks very 'thick'.
Don't worry Grim hammers, I still love your design.

Nice models and well painted! They do look evil to me, particularly with the eye and raised eye brow of Sauron on their shields!
