Very fine work again, OMW - you are very skilled with Hirst Arts pieces. Thanks for the painting advice, too - I will remember that for later. I will have plenty of Hirst Arts construction coming up next year for Osgiliath (and some quite soon for Helm's Deep and Amon Hen).

Thanks. I have learned a lot experimenting. I worked out Amon Hen. Osgiliath can be built with standard Gothic molds. I have a lot to puzzle out to build Helms deep.

Is most of your casting using the Woodland Scenics Hydrocal? The main thing that's put me of Hirst Arts stuff is the associated weight of casting in a durable plaster, but I've heard Hydrocal is quite light. Is it durable also?

I have used WS light weight Hydrocal. I cast so much I buy in bulk from The Engineer Guy and Pick it up to avoid shipping cost. Hydostone is more durable but hydrocal is durable enough. It is also light enough to cast parts for buildings.

I decided to use the large room base. 8" X 8" with the cavern floor on the out side.

I have not decided on the flocking for Mirkwood yet. When I do I will start the glue up. I have some new ideas on how to make the iron work for The Hill of Sorcery.

It is strange how creepy a small piece can be with just those two statues and the other malevolent hints (well, small for your normal epic efforts!) And the vegetation adds to the age of the place and sense of desolation...
Why am I thinking of the line 'Abandon all hope ye who enter here'? Of course it's a trap... :)

I started with the green blend. I will add some fine dark green then some medium yellow and leaves. I will add layers of texture and color. won't be able to manage diorama grade because I am gong to use it in games.

Wow, I can imagine an awesome scenario is this setting.

"Gandalf must cast Blinding Light 3 times before escaping through the front doorway. Azog and the Hunter Orcs must stop him."

Or, "Radagast must retieve the Witch King's Morgul blade and make his escape. The (Twilight) Ringwraith must Kill him."

I've been planning some similar scenarios. If only I had the terrain!

I decided to make 9 free standing columns to use in the generic scenarios. I am going to add felt to the bottoms.

Thanks. Some good ideas! Do you have ideas for Lake Town?

Thanks! All it takes is practice.

The next small project is to make two 8 inch long walls for the Moria style dungeon and to finish the new custom mold for the Hill of Sorcery special parts.

You are a terrain building machine! I think a better username for you would have been Aulë!

If you could see my whole forest and Ent collection you would understand my username completely.

Linda gave me a Hildebandt Tolkien calender when I was in college during the 70's. I always liked the Oldman Willow Print the best. I found an old miniature that looked like it. I later made the conversion and when I joined the One Ring I used a photo of that for the avatar

Oldman Willow certainly is a creative and interesting character.
As for lake town, what parts would you like to recreate?

I am going to start with docks so I can use it for the Pirate game.
I am unsure of a scenario for LOTR.
