Thanks all- I think I've been staring at them too long to fully judge the colour scheme! My idea was that the winter leaves would pick up tones of the red/gold armour (which they do, although it doesn't come across well in the images), while the turquoise would provide a nice contrast.

Coenus Scaldingus wrote:
The shading on the faces does seem slightly harsh on Elrond and Gil-galad by the way, and why are the latter's hands green?

Gilgalad's green hands are supposed to be gloves! I think traditionally, high elves are all supposed to be wearing gloves in battle, according to the film imagery anyway. Perhaps the leaf green wasn't the best choice of colour for them?

And yes, the face highlights are certainly harsh- it's an artefact of trying to paint 37 models in 2 days! I literally spent no more time on the characters than I did the rank and file. This is definitely "tabletop standard", and the lower end of that too ;).

Last night I also started to convert a Narzug on Warg. I think he looks a bit more like an Uruk than an orc, so I used a plastic Uruk scout model torso, and simply stuck it on a warg rider's legs. He's supposed to be a crack archer, so I chose a bowman, and snipped off the quiver, swapping it out for a Hunter Orc quiver. Then I salvaged an elven blade, and stuck it on his back.

I will try to add a few "braids" to his hair this evening, some sort of shoulder fur half cape, and possibly some more fur to his shin pads (or raver boots, as they should probably be known).

Finally, I tried to make the warg a bit more "Fell warg"y with some GS. I left the eyes where they were (the Wild Warg's eyes are set much further forward, more like a Hyena than the more wolf like Fell wargs), but gave him ears and fur tufts. Not sure how it looks really, but perhaps painting will cure my apprehensions.

I think with these things, painting is often the way you truly associate a conversion with the model it is intended to be. Really I should have used a warg berserker for this model as well, as the Uruk is not half naked, but it's a down and dirty conversion, so I'll see how it looks, and just snap off the torso and start again if it really bothers me.

I also need to convert a Fimbul on Warg- I simply do not wish to buy more Finecast than i absolutely have to. Having said that, I've cracked with Azog- I was planning on trying to make him work with the Wild Warg Chieftan, and an Uruk Berserker, but I had no ideas for the head or legs, and decided it would always look hooky.

Thats sweet man. Ill probably try to do that. Except maybe if I have a chance to do it, Ill use a hunter orc on warg cause I have too many of them. But the legs are way small compared to a uruk scout

'S not was my first answer ;)

It's Tamiya Clear Green mixed in with a bit of black and olive drab vallejo acrylic. I've done a little more work on him, but haven't photographed yet. He's pale enough that photos are a bit tricky.

Painting snot is lots of fun though :D

Thanks Harfoot. Really didn't feel much like painting this evening, so did a little bit of thinking about the base. And thus made some of these:

Yep! They certainly are. Or will be when I've added some gills, anyway. First time trying them so we will see how they turn out.

I think the face might need a bit of tweaking- the photos aren't great but they make the contrast look very harsh. In the "flesh" it's not as bad, but I think I should push back the shadows in a few places.

But I'm reasonably happy with him so far. The next steps are:

Skin tweaking
Leather work
A few spots/sores on the skin
Weathering/ dirtying up in places.
The base.

I've actually magnetised the feet for ease of transportation, and also because in the future I might do a three troll diorama, so it'd he nice to pull them off their gaming bases for display. We shall see.

Been pretty tired/demotivated this week, so haven't got much done.

started work on the base- basic structure of the roots are there. I'm going to go for something a bit swampy I think.
